Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Accountant to join our financial team. This pivotal role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the accurate management of financial records, ensure compliance with regulatory standards, and support strategic financial decision-making. As an Accountant, you will play a vital role in maintaining the integrity of our financial data, preparing comprehensive reports, and assisting with audits and regulatory filings. Under general direction, the ideal candidate is responsible for the operations of pre- and post-award grant administration and related accounting duties

Responsibilities

  • Performs grant-related post-award functions, including budget and expense analysis, periodic invoicing, financial reporting, labor distribution, changes and associated communications with Program managers, reconciliations, and re-budgeting; performs grant closeout functions required by Grants and Contracts Administration and sponsors, including reconciliations, financial status reports, final invoices, and final reporting; reviews general ledger transactions to ensure accuracy and complete journal entries. Reviews the Trial Balance and generates program Financial Statements and schedules.

  • Assists with the time and effort reporting system, ensuring it is complete and in compliance with applicable regulations; maintains regular communications with the department; communicates with fiscal contacts at the funding source for problem resolution and information gathering.

  • Acts as a pre-award grant budgeting resource and reviews grant and contract proposals – makes recommendations to the CFO.
  • Conducts monthly budget review to effectively manage the financial activities of each grant to ensure that all activities fall within funder and agency guidelines.
  • Performs analysis and support for projects.
  • Works with the program manager or COO on report requirements to funders. (Example data narration, program narrations, or financial reports)
  • Reconciles related General Ledger accounts.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the CFO.
  • Manage and record all aspects of corporate accounting activities, including journal entries, general ledger reconciliation, and accounts payable/receivable processing.
  • Prepare detailed financial statements in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and regulatory standards.
  • Perform cash flow analysis, bank reconciliations, and variance analysis to support financial planning and management.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations of financial transactions.
  • Mentor junior team members on technical accounting concepts, best practices in bookkeeping, and regulatory standards.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by recommending process enhancements for efficiency and accuracy.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field;
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data accurately.
  • Excellent communication skills for preparing clear financial reports and collaborating across departments.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should be able to use computers and learn various computer systems to set up functions, enter data, or process information—strong skills with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Experience using Abila MIP Fund Accounting Software is preferred.

Education & Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting and 4 years of grants management experience.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $46, $55,161.00 per year
