Primary Role

To plan, order, prepare, and serve nutritious meals and snacks to children and staff in accordance with CACFP guidelines, while maintaining high standards of cleanliness, safety, and food quality in a childcare environment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

1. Meal Planning & Compliance

  • Prepare meals and snacks that meet the nutritional standards and portion sizes outlined by the CACFP.
  • Follow approved menus and accommodate dietary restrictions (allergies, vegetarian, etc.) as required.
  • Ensure that all meals are age-appropriate and culturally inclusive.
  • Maintain documentation of menus, substitutions, and food production records in line with CACFP requirements.

2. Ordering & Inventory Management

  • Order food and kitchen supplies based on approved menus and enrollment counts.
  • Monitor inventory levels and rotate stock to ensure freshness and reduce waste.
  • Receive and inspect food deliveries to ensure quality and accuracy.
  • Maintain food cost within budgetary guidelines.

3. Food Preparation & Cooking

  • Prepare and cook daily breakfast, lunch, and snacks in accordance with CACFP and food safety standards.
  • Ensure food is served at appropriate temperatures and in a timely manner.
  • Portion food properly for each age group, using standardized recipes and serving utensils.

4. Sanitation & Safety

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen environment at all times.
  • Follow all local health department regulations and CACFP food safety practices.
  • Wash dishes and sanitize all kitchen equipment and surfaces daily.
  • Monitor and record food temperatures and cleaning checklists regularly.

5. Record Keeping & Reporting

  • Complete all required CACFP documentation (meal count sheets, food production records, delivery logs, etc.).
  • Maintain accurate records for audits and inspections.
  • Report any concerns with food safety, allergies, or compliance to the Director promptly.

6. Communication & Teamwork

  • Communicate regularly with teaching staff regarding meal times, allergies, and special dietary needs.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings related to nutrition, safety, and CACFP updates.
  • Collaborate with center staff to create a positive and supportive environment for children.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience in food service or nutrition, preferably in a childcare or school setting.
  • Knowledge of CACFP meal pattern requirements and food safety regulations.
  • Ability to lift 30+ lbs, stand for extended periods, and work in a fast-paced kitchen.
  • Current food handler's certification (ServSafe).
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Passion for providing nutritious meals to children in an early childhood setting.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $ $21.00 per hour
