We are seeking an Automotive Service Technician to join our team at Jones Family Of Dealerships in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Our dealership has been around for over 60 years. The Automotive Service Technician will be directly involved in the repair and diagnosis of major components or remove/replace major components as applicable to automotive and light truck vehicles. Expectations include the ability to diagnose and repair the following with minimal supervision: Engine Mechanical, Engine Control Systems, Electric Systems, Hydraulic Brake Systems, Suspension Systems, Heating/ Air Conditioning Systems, Instruments and Gauges, and Preventive Maintenance Service.

Major Responsibilities of the Automotive Service Technician/Mechanic:

  • Demonstrate proficiency in the repair and diagnosis of, with some assistance: Engines, Power Train to include differentials, transmissions, clutches, drive shafts, Electrical systems including starters and alternators, HVAC systems, Steering & Suspension systems, Electronics to include ECM's, PCM's, ECU's, sensors etc.
  • Perform all levels of diagnosis and repair on automobile and light truck vehicles
  • Perform all levels of preventive maintenance services
  • Identify warranty repairs and document on repair order
  • Maintain clean work area and follow all safety policies
  • Road test vehicles when necessary to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure that they are working properly.
  • Provide and use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and measuring instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches.
  • Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other important parts to ensure that they are in proper operating condition.
  • Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries
  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers, and pressure gauges.
  • Perform mechanical and general appearance reconditioning of equipment for "trade-ins" and prepare new equipment for delivery.
  • Other projects and tasks as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications of the Automotive Service Technician/Mechanic:

  • A valid driver's license is required
  • A valid PA Safety Inspection License and PA Emissions Inspector license is required.
  • Some practical experience with automotive repair and service is required
  • Vocational/Technical or certification preferred
  • Specialized training in the repair and replacement of vehicle components is a plus
  • Proficiency in the use of shop tools required
  • Basic computer skills required for data entry into Dealer Management Systems.
