As a Manager of Software Engineering – Retail Media, you'll raise up your team, helping develop individual careers and achieving goals, spotting, and addressing common team problems, and coaching and mentoring those identified for potential company leadership. You'll work closely with stakeholders from product and design, and other engineering leaders, to provide high-quality, repeatable technology delivery for the digital engineering organization. Responsible for hiring, firing, and performance / pay reviews. Makes decisions based on business objectives and allocated resources. Establishes operational objectives and work plans and delegates assignments to the team. Involved in modifying and executing company policies that affect immediate operations and may also have company-wide impact. Supports the function's (Digital) business strategy by implementing new standards and products, processes, and midterm business plans. About the Team: The Campaign Orchestration Engineering Team supports H-E-B's rapidly growing Retail Media organization. We've designed and delivered a custom Order Management System (OMS) leveraging Salesforce and React to replace manual processes with scalable, automated workflows. We are looking for: As the engineering manager, you will lead a high-performing group of backend engineers (Apex), frontend engineers (React), and a Business Systems Analyst. This team partners closely with Retail Media business stakeholders, Product, and other Digital engineering groups to drive strategic initiatives that improve campaign orchestration, measurement, and capacity. What is your background? 5+ years of experience; experience managing people, processes, or projects. Bachelor / Masters' degree in a relevant field of education and / or work experience leading successful projects and coaching / mentoring others in functional area. Completion of H-E-B Leadership programs where applicable (i.e. SORL) The right leader will help scale our systems, mentor engineers, and ensure we continue to deliver impactful solutions that advance Retail Media's long-term strategy. Proven leadership experience managing software engineering teams Experience building custom applications for internal customers Salesforce (Apex, Sales Cloud) and React development experience Strong stakeholder management and cross-functional communication skills Defining and maturing SDLC processes for engineering teams Bonus: Retail Media, AdTech, or OMS platform experience What is the work? Manages activities of two or more sections or departments. Exercises supervision in terms of costs, methods, and staffing. Leads team / department and undertakes coaching and mentoring responsibilities. A portion of time may be spent performing individual tasks related to the department / team or function. Impact: Assignments are objective oriented. Work is reviewed in terms of meeting departmental objectives and timelines. Failure to achieve objectives will have a short-term impact on cost and on department / team success with a potential impact on the department. Works on issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth knowledge of organizational objectives Implements strategic policies when selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results Assures adherence to budgets and establishes schedules, work plans, and performance requirements Looks beyond existing methodologies to resolve complex issues often cross-functional in nature or with significant impact to the business Interacts daily with direct reports, peer leaders, and senior leaders effectively communicating and presenting results and recommendations within their department Management: Directly supports individual contributors. Coaches / mentors in engineering techniques, processes, and new technologies; enable others to succeed; empowers team members to be autonomous, fast, and effective. Manages team's HR responsibilities (e.g., pay planning, promotions, expenses, leave) Leads large team initiatives including technical design / delivery of complex features across multiple systems as H-E-B improves customer and Partner user experiences. Develops technical roadmaps / leads engineers across one or more squads to deliver initiatives; ensures technical roadmap aligns with business opportunities. Recommends improvements to overall application system design, architecture, security, scalability, reliability, and performance on their assigned systems / applications. Proposes paths forward to drive outcomes Recommends changes to processes and tools at group / department level based on industry standards, patterns, and practices. Assists diagnosis / troubleshoots extremely complex issues Creates documentation and training related to technology stacks and standards. Provides guidance on code reviews or pull requests. Interviews and hires Software Engineering Talent and supports the onboarding to their respective organization. Builds talent through career coaching, development and problem solving or helping remove roadblocks. Do you have what it takes to be an H-E-B Manager of Software Engineering? Senior management defines / reviews manager objectives to determine success of operation. Has latitude to make decisions in achievement of defined goals. Erroneous decisions will result in critical delay(s) in schedules and / or Department / team operations which may jeopardize overall business activities. Broad knowledge of the field with proven leadership skills Expert knowledge of system architecture, design patterns, and multiple technologies, including technology used at H-E-B. Expert understanding of development methodologies and processes Understanding of cross-tech stacks and scalability and reliability implications Skills in multiple programming languages, technologies, and frameworks Technical skills / competency equivalent to expectations of a Senior Engineer Ability to learn new technology, processes, and business, and quickly on-board projects in minimal time. Ability to approach problem-solving holistically and consider solutions through a combination of technology and process. Ability to coordinate work for a group of engineers on major initiatives.
