It is an amazing time to join our CACREP-Accredited Counselor Education Program in The School of Education and Human Development at the University of Southern Maine We offer one of the only Counselor Education Programs that provides students with a combination of in-person, hybrid, and online classroom delivery options in the state and continue to be a leading program in the Northeast. We are seeking applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor for the Fall 2026 semester. We welcome applicants in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.
Graduates of the clinical mental health program qualify to serve as licensed clinical professional counselors (LCPC). New faculty members should possess expertise in counseling theories, skills, and foundation counseling courses to support students in achieving these licenses and certifications.
The USM Counselor Education program is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). The successful candidate will be expected to teach a range of courses in their respective specialty area of Clinical Mental Health Counseling and core counselor education program courses. The successful candidate will engage in regular student advising, pursue a scholarly agenda, and be actively involved in service to the students, department, school, university and the profession.

The targeted starting date for this position is Fall 2026 and will pay a base salary of $65,000 plus benefits. When hired, candidates must reside within a 90-minute commutable distance from the USM campuses. This requirement is essential for the ability to participate in supporting and building upon our university culture of "student focused every day" and allows for regular participation in on-campus activities, meetings, and fulfills the responsibilities of the role effectively.

Required Qualifications:
- An earned doctoral degree in Counselor Education or ABD with evidence of comp leted doctoral degree to be provided by start date.
- Credentialed or eligible for credentialing as a National Certified Counselor (NCC).
- Possess or be able to attain a clinical mental health counseling license in Maine - LCPC
- Experience with both face-to-face and online education and/or training.
- Evidence of commitment to diversity, student success, active learning, and community engagement .
- Evidence of potential to pursue a relevant scholarly and research agenda.
