Sylvan Learning Centers in Schaumburg and Lake Zurich, IL are hiring passionate Math Tutors to help students build skills and confidence across all levels of math. We offer in-person, hybrid, and remote tutoring options for students in grades K–12, from foundational number sense through Algebra I and beyond.
About the Role
As a Sylvan Math Tutor, you'll teach engaging lessons using Sylvan's proven curriculum — no lesson planning or grading required You'll work with small groups of motivated students, helping them understand math concepts, gain confidence, and enjoy learning.
What You'll Do
- Deliver personalized math instruction in a supportive, small-group setting
- Use Sylvan's adaptive learning programs, manipulatives, and visual models to make math fun and interactive
- Help students master essential math skills from basic operations to algebraic thinking
- Arrive 15 minutes before your first session and stay 10 minutes after your last
- Collaborate with a caring team focused on student success
Qualifications (Required)
- Some college coursework completed (preferably at least 2 years)
- Competence with math content through Algebra I or Grade 9 Math
- Ability to teach with patience and enthusiasm
- Teaching certification not required
Highly Preferred
- Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Education, or a related field
- Genuine enthusiasm for math and for working with children
- Comfortable using hands-on manipulatives and visual learning tools
- Skilled at asking guiding questions to help students reason through problems
