Overview
The College of Veterinary Medicine has an Outcomes Assessment Specialist (Data Analyst II) position who will work with educators, administrators, subject-matter experts, alumni, employers and program managers to collect, evaluate, and analyze student learning and program outcomes data. Incumbent will also prepare statistical, narrative reports and recommendations, and participate in the analysis and interpretation of data as appropriate. Must have advanced knowledge and ability to work independently, engage in systematic data analysis and outcomes assessment planning with skill and leadership, and provide experience-based insights to educators, administrators, and program managers via consultation. The Outcomes Assessment Specialist reports to the Associate Dean for Academic Programs.
Responsibilities
Consults and guides faculty, administrators and program managers in the systematic design of student and program assessment plans.
Serves as subject matter expert in student assessment, assisting in the development of assessment tools, including quizzes, exams, and rubrics, to measure student learning outcomes and evaluate the effectiveness of instructional methods.
Maintains, and ensures quality control of databases and may assist in the development and implementation of measurement systems.
Collects, analyzes, interprets, and summarizes data for generation of statistical and analytical reports.
Maintains computerized collection and tracking of relevant data.
Identifies and/or develops specific databases for collection, tracking, and reporting of data, as appropriate.
Utilizes data analysis and statistical software to analyze and interpret research data.
Submits written and/or oral reports as requested.
Assists in the development of accreditation materials.
- Serves as a liaison with outside units.
- Serves on committees as requested.
- Develops surveys and interview protocols.
- Distributes, tracks and coordinates online surveys as required.
- Work collaboratively with instructional designers and educators within the college to promote a culture of continuous improvement and innovation in veterinary education.
- Stay informed about current trends and research in student and program outcomes assessments, and veterinary education.
- Engages with, and periodically leads, team projects to identify existing needs and implement solutions.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field plus two years of experience or an equivalent combination of education plus experience is required.
- Proficiency with data analysis and graphics systems and tools.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Experience with accreditation of educational programs and student learning outcomes and program learning outcomes assessment
- Expert knowledge of web-based applications and assessment tools commonly used for education (web conferencing, video capture and hosting, virtual proctoring, assessment authoring and delivery, polling, survey tools).
- Basic knowledge of principles of outcomes assessments in educational programs.
- Ability to gather and analyze statistical data and generate reports.
- Ability to design and implement systems necessary to collect, maintain, and analyze data.
- Ability to utilize statistical computer software.
- Ability to manage and complete numerous cyclical projects.
- Skill in project management, team participation, and team leadership.
- Proficiency with mobile technologies.
- Skilled at computers and software, including operating systems, web browsers, Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to find creative and novel approaches to problems.
- Ability to maintain up-to-date and accurate records.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to learn new systems.

The Outcomes Assessment Specialist will be joining the college at an exciting point of transformation. In 2022 the state of Utah approved the creation of a full four-year Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree program at USU, and the inaugural class of 42 students has been admitted in the fall of 2025. Class size is expected to increase to 80 veterinary students in subsequent years. The new college is the only veterinary medical education program in Utah.
