Position Title: Pop-up Manager

Classification: Part-time, Seasonal, Non-Exempt, Travel Required

Reports to: HBMS Vice President & Managing Director

Position Summary & Objectives

The Pop-up Manager will represent Historic Bethlehem Museums & Sites (HBMS) at the Christkindlmarkt through a pop-up booth, promoting merchandise, tours, and experiences. This role is responsible for building positive relationships with visitors, ticket and merchandise sales, and achieving a goal of $35k in total sales between November 15 - December 22. The successful candidate will manage the training, and scheduling of a part-time team to ensure smooth operations, excellent customer service, and alignment with HBMS objectives. Evening and weekend availability is required.

This is a seasonal position, running from November 4 through January 1, with up to 20 hours a week during the 6 weeks of Christkindlmarkt (approximately 15 hours at the booth, and 5 hours of admin time a week) and requires travel from HBMS sites.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Pop-up Operations

  • Oversee daily operations of the HBMS pop-up booth, ensuring it is visually appealing, well-stocked, and aligned with HBMS branding.
  • Engage visitors to promote and sell tours, merchandise, and memberships, generating enthusiasm for HBMS's mission.
  • Collaborate with the Heritage Concierge and Schropp Shoppe teams to meet and exceed sales goals.
  • Lead by example in greeting customers, upselling products, and encouraging repeat visits and memberships.
  • Team Management
  • Recruit, train, and manage a part-time team to assist with booth operations.
  • Create and manage staff schedules to ensure peak coverage during evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Provide coaching and feedback to maintain high levels of customer service and operational efficiency.
  • Weekly communications to update staff on goals, products, and tour availability.
  • Sales and Reporting
  • Manage transactions and cash handling with accuracy and accountability.
  • Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with the Schropp Shoppe for restocking as needed.
  • Collect visitor data for marketing and outreach purposes.
  • Prepare reports on sales performance and visitor feedback for HBMS leadership.

Qualifications

  • Experience in retail, sales, or customer service, with supervisory experience preferred.
  • High energy and outgoing personality, comfortable engaging with the public.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays during the Christkindlmarkt event period.
  • Proficiency with point-of-sale systems and comfort with technology.
  • Exceptional communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in a fast-paced environment.

Reporting Relationships:

The Pop-up Manager reports to the Vice President & Managing Director.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

The position frequently requires standing, sitting, bending, walking and climbing stairs. The position also requires the ability to lift or carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
