This position exists to locate motor vehicle crashes on the KDOT Linear Referencing System (LRS). Locating crashes is achieved through analysis of Motor Vehicle Crash Reports (MVCRs) and additional methods and tools (i.e., google maps, satellite view, ESRI GIS tools, etc.). The Research Analyst III is also responsible for reviewing, evaluating, and reporting location data errors within the MVCR and making corrections to the data stored within the Kansas crash database. The position will take directions from the Crash Location Supervisor.Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:Serves as a crash locating specialist, including duties such as locating motor vehicle crashes, positively identifying landmarks and/or unique features of an area of interest for motor vehicle crashes, making corrections in the Crash Data Processing application, and developing procedures and methodologies to gather, interpret, and analyze complex crash report location data.Serves as a technical contact for locating crashes in the Safety Data Section. This includes duties such as developing and maintaining an expert level of understanding of MVCR coding and ESRI crash locating software knowledge, developing and maintaining a comprehensive understanding of the road network in the state for locating crashes, and performing operational duties assigned by the supervisor accurately and in a timely manner.Performs problem solving to internal and external users, including interacting with law enforcement, contractors, and data processing staff questions regarding location coding and processing, and conducting research on questions related to location reporting.Attends meetings and conferences with local governments, KDOT Bureaus, State agencies, federal grantor agencies, and the Traffic Records Coordinating Committee as required to discuss and/or become informed of regulations to follow state and federal laws and to continuously aim to improve efficiency or effectiveness of the Crash Locating Process.View the full position descriptionQualifications:Minimum Qualifications:Two years of experience in collecting, evaluating, studying, or reporting on statistical, economic, fiscal/budget, legislative or administrative data.One year of experience working with relational databases.Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.
