As an Assistant Audio Visual Technician, you'll bring meetings and events to life by setting up, operating, and breaking down lighting, sound, and internet equipment. This hands-on position is perfect for someone who enjoys problem-solving, working with technology, and being part of a fast-paced, customer-focused environment. You'll have the opportunity to support a wide variety of events, often working behind the scenes to make them run seamlessly. Evening and weekend shifts are common, and while the schedule may include days longer than eight hours. The target hourly rate for this postion is $ $21.50, depending on qualifications.
Distinguishing Characteristics: This is the entry-level classification in the Audio-Visual Technician series. The incumbent follows routine procedures and guidelines in the application of prescribed duties and works under close supervision with work frequently reviewed by a superior. This classification is distinguished from the Audio-Visual Technician in that the latter performs more complex technical duties requiring a higher level of knowledge and skill.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

- Locates, sets up, and connects audio/visual equipment for customers of the Plano Event Center such as microphones, screens, sound systems, etc.
- Explains correct operational procedures for audio/visual equipment to customers of the Plano Event Center. Demonstrates proper operating procedures as required.
- Responds to customer requests on event days concerning audio/visual equipment and/or services by providing required equipment, testing equipment, and ensuring that equipment works properly.
- Maintains the audio/visual service areas and performs non-technical preventive maintenance on the audio/visual equipment and systems.
- Monitors equipment and systems performance, condition, and need for repair. Reports findings to supervisor.
- Assists with the technical production of events at Plano Event Center, operating equipment as required.
- May operate and run sound board, light board, spotlight, and other equipment on a contract to customer basis as required.
- Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work schedule is essential.
Marginal Duties:
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Typical Decisions: The incumbent determines and recommends the audio/visual equipment and method of use that will best fit the needs of the customer. The incumbent must prioritize work assignments to complete them in the time allotted.
Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge of: Commercial theatrical lighting systems and components; professional sound system operation; operation of video systems.
Skill in: Learning equipment and operations; communicating effectively both verbally and in writing; working effectively and professionally with contractors, the public, and staff.
Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
Experience: One (1) year of experience in audio/visual rental operations, theater production, or electronics is required.
Any work-related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above Minimum Qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements.
Licenses and Certifications: Texas Class C Driver's License (must obtain within 30 days of hire per state law).
Conditions of Employment: Must pass a drug test, driver's license check, criminal history background check, periodic CJIS background check (for positions requiring access into Police buildings) and social security number verification check.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions: Must possess mobility to work in and around City buildings and facilities, to operate a motor vehicle and drive on surface streets; strength, stamina, and mobility to perform light to medium physical work, to work in confined spaces and around machines, and to operate varied hand tools, power tools, and equipment; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone or radio. The job involves fieldwork requiring frequent walking in operational areas to identify problems or hazards. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate above-mentioned tools and equipment. Positions in this classification bend, stoop, kneel, and reach when completing installations, maintenance, and repairs. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 75 pounds, or heavier weights with the use of proper equipment.
Employees work in and around buildings and facilities and are extreme heights, vibrations, mechanical and/or electrical hazards.
