Purchasing Manager

Defibtech is seeking a Purchasing Manager as the primary buyer for the Company, responsible for purchases of inventory, equipment, services, and supplies in support of manufacturing and the general operation of the Company. This role is based on site at our manufacturing site in Branford, CT.
Core Responsibilities:
- Participates in the process of creating a material plan as it relates to items that are purchased for manufacturing and utilizes the material plan as the basis to create the purchasing strategy and authorizes the purchase of material.
- Purchases items based on the material plan with consideration for financial and logistical constraints, company policy, including compliance with quality standards, levels of approval and purchase order processing instructions.
- Serves as a primary contact for suppliers including Approved Supplier List (ASL) compliance, initiating, and maintaining purchase orders and agreements and assisting other departments including Quality, Engineering and Accounting with supplier interactions.
- Participates in regular supplier reviews, including Quarterly Business Reviews (QBR) for tier-one suppliers. This includes gathering performance data, organizing reports, creating, and monitoring KPIs, anticipating issues to help correct the performance of under-performing suppliers.
- Collaborates with business partners to identify and minimize exposure to part obsolescence strategize on last time buys, and manages and negotiates price changes (e.g., PPV, Tariff's, scrap etc.).
- Identifies and anticipates supplier improvement opportunities to ensure business continuity including cost reduction, improved logistics, and stocking programs.
- Identifies new and alternative suppliers and parts, supports the evaluation of supplier capabilities, and coordinates the technical evaluation of the supplier with Quality and Engineering.
- Collaborates closely with Operations and Finance to resolve receiving and pricing disputes.
- Represents the material planning and purchasing function in multi-disciplinary project teams (e.g., new product development.), including component sourcing and supplier selection and makes purchases authorized by project teams.
- Informs suppliers of Engineering changes, ensures all materials in line with the latest revision/specifications, and maintains records in the applicable systems.
- Demonstrates Defibtech's values on the job and promotes and participates in continuous improvement.
- Actively supports compliance of Company operations to all applicable laws, regulations and standards, good business practices and company documented procedures (including but not limited to FDA, Quality Systems Regulations, safety regulations, and applicable statutes).
- Provides oversight and supervision for assigned team/employees.
- Provides constructive and timely coaching and feedback to support a learning culture
- Provides leadership and communicates to create an environment that fosters engagement.
- Supervises and manages employees in accordance with Company policies and applicable laws.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Ability to be a hands-on manager who can also be an individual contributor.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Exceptional planning and organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines in a team environment.
- Ability to identify technical requirements and to assess supplier capabilities.
- Development of internal and external professional relationships based on trust, integrity, and accountability.
- Proficient in MS Office applications, as well as ERP systems (e.g., Epicor, Oracle, SAP).
- Effective written and verbal communication.
- Highly adaptable and flexible to accept innovative ideas and procedures.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
- Work is primarily based in an office setting. This role is an onsite role.
- Physical demands are primarily sedentary with frequent sitting, standing and short durations of walking throughout location(s); occasional lifting up to 20lbs.
