The Enterprise Data Services (EDS), the engine behind Delta's enterprise data strategy, is hiring a data engineer to play a critical role in cross functional initiatives, bringing deep subject matter expertise in full data lifecycle. We ingest real-time and batch data from internal and external sources, transform it into strategic assets, and deliver curated data products that fuel analytics, reporting, and AI across the company. Our work supports teams in Digital, Revenue Management, Customer Experience, TechOps, Crew, Loyalty, and more.

IIn this team, the data engineer will collaborate and manage platforms like the Enterprise Data Warehouse, Operations Data Lake, and Historical Fares, and provide production support for tools like Tableau and SAS. Our mission is to deliver timely, actionable, and accurate data that drives operational efficiency, enhances passenger experience, and unlocks revenue growth.

Responsibilities Include But Not Limited To

  • Implement data engineering solutions, e.g., locate and extract data from a variety of sources for use in reporting, analysis, and statistical modeling to drive continuous improvement)
  • Practice good software engineering techniques, e.g., Git, scrum, branching, code reviews, spikes
  • Utilize knowledge around data pipelines, data analysis, and data science to enhance functionalities
  • Execute the data engineering roadmap
  • Partner with Information Technology to optimize and enhance the database environment for optimal efficiency and best practices
  • Leverage emerging technologies and identify efficient and meaningful ways to disseminate data and analysis to satisfy the business' needs
  • Interface with business unit leaders to develop and maintain internal customer relationships

What You Need To Succeed (Minimum Qualifications)

  • 3+ years' experience working as a data engineer
  • Proficiency in SQL (CTE, window functions, temporal data)
  • Proficiency in Python and data-focused packages, e.g., Pandas, Numpy
  • Proficiency with software development tools such as Git, IDEs, Swagger, CI/CD
  • Experience building efficient, ETL/ELT processes using industry leading tools such as Informatica, Talend, Spark etc.
  • Embraces diverse people, thinking and styles
  • Consistently makes safety and security, of self and others, the priority
  • Working knowledge of data science/machine learning best practices and tools
  • Working knowledge of AWS cloud computing tools
  • Working knowledge of API Consumption preferred
  • Familiarity with nosql databases and distributed databases
  • Strong written, oral communication, and interpersonal skills
