The Department of Public Safety is filling multiple full-time entry level Service Employee positions in the Fleet Services area. These positions are designed to provide training and experience in a wide array of functions and operations in Fleet Services. The successful candidates will perform functions and tasks involving basic vehicle maintenance/ repair, vehicle transportation, parts pickup/delivery and data entry into the Fleet Management Software. This position can assist the incumbent with the skills, training and experience necessary to potentially advance to the role of Automotive/ Motorcycle Technician. Promotion to this role may be achieved after satisfactory performance during a one-year period, meeting all required minimum qualifications in the classification and successful completion of the Automotive/ Motorcycle technician examination process. Under direct supervision, performs work in a structured or unstructured program to gain practical work experience in one of the administrative, professional or technical fields within the Department. May rotate from assignment to assignment within the agency to learn and contribute to administrative, professional or technical processes. Performs related duties as assigned. This classification is designated as uncovered. Incumbent serves at the pleasure of the Director of the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

Essential Functions (not intended to be all inclusive)- Assists Department employees in performing a variety of assignments of a support, administrative or technical nature based on the needs of an assigned area.
- Assists experienced Automotive Technicians with a wide array of skilled tasks
- Organizes and prepares work area to optimize shop efficiency and function
- Operates department vehicles as needed
- Performs research and prepares reports on assigned topics
- Participates in program planning, development, implementation and evaluation.
- Performs special projects or assignments as directed.
Knowledge of:
- Business English, spelling, grammar and punctuation required to produce and proofread simple written documents.
- Modern office practices, procedures and equipment required to perform office functions in an efficient manner.
- Records management systems (automated and manual files).
- Basic automotive repair knowledge
Skill in:
- The use of a computer keyboard device.
- The use of computer software programs.
- The operation of various vehicles
- Safely jump starting a motor vehicle
- Identifying and using proper hand and power tools in a safe manner.
Ability to:
- Work independently and as part of a team.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of assignment.
- Communicate orally and in writing to present information in a logical and understandable format.
- Understand written and verbal instruction to complete assigned tasks accurately.
- Exercise good judgment in safeguarding confidential or sensitive information.
- Read, comprehend, and interpret written materials of simple to moderate complexity.
- Work with interruptions.
- Adapt to changing priorities.
- Organize, prioritize and perform multiple tasks.
- Work within stringent deadlines to complete work assignments.
- Effectively communicate orally and in writing.
- Evaluate information, make decisions, and take appropriate action.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent by start of employment.
Must possess and maintain an Arizona Driver's License.
Excellent customer service etiquette is highly desirable.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- May be required to move items up to 50 pounds for distances of up to 10 feet.
- May be required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel and squat for extended periods of time.
- May be exposed to fumes or dust, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor whether, moving mechanical parts and moderate to loud noise levels.
