Our client, a
privately held systems integrator
specializing in
process automation and control solutions
across the
pharmaceutical, water, food & beverage, utilities, and manufacturing
sectors, is seeking a
Director of Operations
to lead their engineering and project delivery teams.
This is a
senior leadership position
overseeing engineers across four Midwest locations. Reporting directly to the President, the Director will manage key operational functions, drive efficiency, and ensure world-class customer project execution. The ideal candidate will bring both
technical depth and business acumen
, guiding the organization through its next phase of growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and oversight for engineering, program management, and project execution teams.
- Manage 3 direct reports (Program Manager, Engineering Manager, Principal Engineer) and oversee ~30 indirect reports across multiple offices.
- Lead operational strategy, execution, and accountability across all engineering disciplines.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to increase efficiency, profitability, and client satisfaction.
- Partner closely with Sales and Business Development on client projects from concept through commissioning.
- Ensure quality and consistency across cradle-to-grave control system projects in diverse process industries.
- Lead financial planning and budgeting for the operations group; monitor performance metrics and profitability (P&L awareness required).
- Develop and mentor high-performing leaders; build succession strength within the technical organization.
- Represent operations at the executive level; collaborate cross-functionally with leadership on long-term planning and growth.
- Maintain regular visibility with customers through site visits, reviews, and client meetings.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in
Engineering, Life Sciences, or related technical field
. - 15+ years
of experience in
operations, engineering leadership, or systems integration
. - Proven record of managing technical teams and P&L.
- Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to influence across departments.
- Ability to travel ~25%, including periodic multi-day visits to client sites in Colorado and surrounding states.
Preferred:
- MBA or advanced degree.
- Background in
automation, process control, or Industry 4.0
solutions. - Experience leading cross-functional engineering and operations teams in project-based environments.
Compensation & Benefits
