Position Summary

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) in Pain Management provides advanced nursing care to patients suffering from acute and chronic pain conditions. The NP evaluates, diagnoses, and manages pain through pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments, while collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to improve patient outcomes and quality of life.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including medical history, physical examination, and review of diagnostic studies.
  • Develop and implement individualized pain management plans under established protocols and in collaboration with supervising physicians.
  • Prescribe and manage medications, including opioids and adjuvant therapies, in compliance with federal and state laws.
  • Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests such as imaging, laboratory studies, and nerve conduction studies.
  • Assist with or perform minor interventional procedures (e.g., joint injections, trigger point injections, nerve blocks) within scope of practice and training.
  • Provide patient and family education on pain management techniques, medication use, and alternative therapies.
  • Monitor treatment effectiveness, adjust care plans as needed, and ensure continuity of care.
  • Document patient encounters and maintain accurate, timely records in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Collaborate with physicians, physical therapists, psychologists, and other healthcare providers to ensure integrated, multidisciplinary care.
  • Participate in ongoing quality improvement initiatives and continuing education to maintain best practices in pain management.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Master's or Doctoral degree in Nursing (MSN or DNP) from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.

Licensure/Certification:

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) and Nurse Practitioner (NP) license in [State].
  • National certification as an NP (e.g., AANP, ANCC) in a relevant specialty (Family, Adult-Gerontology, Acute Care, etc.).
  • DEA registration and state-controlled substance license (if applicable).
  • BLS and ACLS certification required.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 1–2 years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner in pain management, anesthesiology, neurology, orthopedics, or a related specialty preferred.
  • Familiarity with opioid stewardship, multimodal pain management, and chronic pain conditions is highly desirable.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong clinical and diagnostic skills with a focus on pain assessment and management.
  • Thorough understanding of pharmacologic and interventional pain therapies.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for patient education and team collaboration.
  • Commitment to patient safety, compassionate care, and evidence-based practice.
  • Ability to work independently while functioning effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Work Environment

  • Outpatient pain management clinic and/or hospital setting.
  • May involve working with patients experiencing complex medical and psychological conditions.
  • Standard business hours; occasional extended or weekend shifts based on clinic operations.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $109, $134,456.08 per year
