Sr. Rules and Compliance Specialist

The Rules & Compliance Specialist for Riot Esports will report to the Head of Competitive Operations, Americas and be part of the Competitive Operations Team in the Americas region. You will join a lean but impactful team of esports professionals to help govern and operate our Riot Esports properties in the Americas territory.
The Americas Esports team is focused on delivering amazing fan experiences through our regional competitions. Our professional and semi-professional competitive tiers in League of Legends, VALORANT, League of Legends: Wild Rift, Teamfight Tactics and Organized Play, involve thousands of players and hundreds of organizations competing every week. Riot expects everyone involved in Riot Esports competitions to comply with the Riot Esports rules and regulations.
As Rules & Compliance III, Americas you will be responsible for disciplinary and regulatory matters as well as aspects of governance. You will work closely with the regional and global Competitive Operations teams to develop our strategy and tactics for handling complex disciplinary investigations, lead our day to day efforts administering discipline across our esports in the territory, and execute integrity-related programs.
Responsibilities
- Lead discipline and rules enforcement for our professional and semi-professional ecosystems across our multiple esports in the Americas territory
- Partner with the Global Head of Rules and Compliance, esports, to level up our existing rulesets, develop new policies and practices to position Riot at the forefront of discipline within esports / sports
- Audit the rulesets of sub-regions within the America territories to ensure their compliance with Global regulations
- Provide best practices to our various partnered tournament organizers and the wider Americas competitive operations team
- Drive alignment locally and globally to ensure consistency in enforcement and discipline across our different esports
- Collaborate with the Legal team on compliance issues that arise with our esports across the Americas territory
- Design and execute strategy for effective prevention and education programs within the Americas territory
- Develop and execute a strategy for managing and engaging with third party government bodies and regulators within the Americas territory
- Collaborate with Riot's Communications team to craft and implement clear communication strategies that ensure transparency of our Integrity programs
- Establish processes for auditing and reporting on Integrity programs, including systematic data collection, analysis, and production of regular reports
- Implement auditing practices for partnered Tournament Organizers to assess compliance with Riot's rules, policies, and Integrity standards
- Drive initiatives that grow and professionalize the craft within the Americas territory, ensuring continuous development, knowledge sharing, and alignment with global best practices
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in overseeing complex investigations, preferably in traditional sports
- Prior experience managing strategic initiatives and building impactful practices in gaming, international arbitration, courts, and/or professional sports leagues or similar
- Ability to handle sensitive materials with total discretion
- Strong analytical ability and critical thinking skills
- Able to handle ambiguity and work under tight deadlines
- Strong track record working cross-functionally with legal, regulators and internal/external partners in highly visible or high-pressure contexts.
- Experience working cross-functionally on multiple work streams with an array of internal & external teams
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and effectiveness in communicating across all levels of an organization
- Full working proficiency in English
Desired Qualifications
- Fluency in additional language(s) beyond English is desired, particularly Spanish and/or Brazilian Portuguese
- Law degree or experience in the legal field
- Demonstrated success in designing, implementing, and auditing rules, regulations, or compliance programs across multiple jurisdictions.
- Experience with Sports Law
- Knowledge of the global esports ecosystem

Duties
