Under the general direction of the Ice Center Management, prepares food and drink items for sale at Ice Center concession stand, sells pro-shop items, monitors public skating sessions for the safety and enjoyment of participants and general cleaning. Seasonal part-time hours fluctuate throughout the period of hire depending on the Ice Center's needs. Candidates must be able to work approximately 8-15 hours per week, including weekends.

The Coon Rapids Ice Center is a state-of-the art skating facility featuring indoor ice, an outdoor refrigerated rink (one of few in the state), meeting rooms, training rooms and party rooms. The facility provides year-round indoor skating opportunities including skating instruction, hockey skill development, numerous hockey tournaments, public skating events, skate rental and sharpening. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Essential duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.

  • Prepares and serves food and drink items from Ice Center programs and services.
  • Collects and accounts for the money for Ice Center programs and services.
  • Assists with rental and return of Ice Center skates.
  • Monitors public skating participants, ensuring compliance with Ice Center regulations.
  • Informs Ice Center participants of the availability of City recreational programs and services.
  • Registers participants in Ice Center programs or facilities.
  • Assists with minor maintenance duties, as requested.
  • Checks out locker room keys and communicates any locker room schedule updates to shift supervisor.
  • Provides effective and respected communication and interactions with other employees, supervisors, individuals from other organizations and citizen customers.
  • Follows oral and written instructions such as supervisor's work orders and equipment operation manuals.
  • Maintains positive professional working relationships with all staff levels, other jurisdictions and the general public.
  • Regular and reliable attendance during scheduled work hours and outside regular hours as necessary.
  • Performs other related functions as apparent or delegated.
  • Performs essential duties and responsibilities under the working conditions and physical demands described herein.
Required Knowledge and Abilities

To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

  • Previous customer service experience preferred, especially in food service.
  • Proficient skating ability preferred.
  • Ability to promote favorable working relationships with all Ice Center users.
  • Handles confidential information appropriately.
  • Ability to perform duties with tact, diplomacy and discretion.
  • Ability to be detail oriented and follow through with tasks.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to maintain a team and service-oriented approach to work.
  • Must have the ability to accept constructive criticism or discipline in a positive manner, initiating self-development to improve job performance.
  • Must strive to promote a cooperative atmosphere in the department and exhibit a positive attitude.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with City personnel, external vendors and the public.
  • Performs essential duties and responsibilities under the working hours described herein.
Qualifications and Other Information

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A combination of training and experience substantially equivalent to the following:

  • Minimum 16 years of age.
  • Ability to work effectively and courteously with the public is essential.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to stand and/or skate for long periods of time.
  • Ability to work in cool temperatures.
  • The employee is frequently required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee must occasionally move, turn, lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Examples of lifting and carrying requirements include but are not limited to boxes of frozen food and supplies.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, color vision, distance vision and depth perception.
  • Must be able to operate assigned equipment.

EQUIPMENT/JOB LOCATION:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job. Duties performed will be primarily within the Ice Center location. This position works closely with others. Noise level in the arena can be loud.
