Jr. MIM Set-Up Specialist

Job Description:

The Jr. MIM Set-Up Specialist is responsible for learning and performing the set-up and operation of injection molding machines under the guidance of an Set-Up Specialist. This trainee position involves extensive hands-on training and experience, focusing on advanced machine setup, process optimization, and quality control. The trainee will work closely with experienced operators, set-up specialist, and supervisors to develop expertise in injection molding processes and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Communicate with PMOs, Leads/Supervisors, and Engineers.
• Responsible for performing set-up or change-over of mold bases and modules according to setup guidelines and production schedule.
• Familiarize with working on simple (open & close or 2-plates) molds under the guidance of Set-Up Specialist/Trainer or Engineering Technician when working on complex molds (driven by mechanical components or 3-plates).
• Set-up vision system and part handling robots by changing end of arm tools.
• Able to select, upload, and download qualified molding program.
• Perform first article inspections of molded parts using a microscope.
• Ability to analyze part defects and share findings with production support team members.
• Responsible for cleaning molds periodically during production runs.
• Seek guidance from Set-up Specialist/Trainer or Engineering Technician in troubleshooting molds and/or making process adjustments.
• Responsible for purging and switching of materials.
• Submit molds to get cleaned by in-house tool room based on shot count.
• Operate assigned molding presses on production basis per manufacturing control instructions.
• Keep tool carts organized with necessary tools to perform setups.
• Read and interpret technical documents including 2D blueprint drawings.
• Operate overhead crane to move molds to desired location.
• Clean and maintain work areas through Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and 5S.
• Abide by defined plant and department safety policies, including personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Monitor machine operations to ensure quality and efficiency.
• Conduct detailed quality inspections of finished products to ensure they meet specifications.
• Maintain accurate production records and reports.
• Lead and participate in training sessions and workshops to develop technical skills and knowledge.
• Assist in the development and implementation of process improvements.
• Analyze production data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
• Provide guidance and support to junior operators.
• Work closely with management to develop and implement strategic initiatives.
• Any other duties or responsibilities assigned by Supervisor/Manager.

Job Requirements:

Education/Work Experience:

• HS Diploma/GED and 3 year of related work experience (injection molding or similar manufacturing environment) or
• 4 years of related work experience
• Experience with process improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma).
• Excellent communication in English (Reading, writing, and verbal) and teamwork skills.
• Strong mechanical aptitude, manual dexterity, and eyesight required.
• Advanced problem-solving skills 
• Able to read and interpret two-dimensional engineering drawings and blueprints.
• Proficient time management/ sense of urgency
• Proven leadership skills and the ability to mentor and guide junior operators.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to make data-driven decisions.

Abilities:

• Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to follow instructions and guidelines set forth by the area Lead/Supervisor
• Excellent knowledge of weight scales, measurements and mathematical skills
• Ability to read and interpret technical documents and blueprints.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
• Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to learn and utilize computer for database applications.
• Ability to stand and or sit for long periods of time as required by work schedule
• Train and mentor junior operators
