PRIMARY FUNCTION: This position is responsible for maintaining the appearance and functional soundness of our schools and facilities grounds. The role involves designing and implementing system layouts, diagnosing and resolving technical issues, and coordinating with construction teams to ensure timely and proper integration of electronic systems during building projects.

REQUIREMENTS:
Education Level:
Required:
- High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution recognized by GaDOE
- Minimum of four (4) years of experience in grounds maintenance or a related field
Preferred:
- Associate degree or certification in turf management or related discipline
- 5 years of experience in commercial and residential grounds maintenance.
Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements
Required:
- Must have a valid driver's license
Preferred:
- Valid Class B, CDL driver's license
- Landscaper Certification
- Heavy Equipment Operator Certification or proof of experience
Experience, Skill, and Certification:
GROUNDSMAN
- Proficient in trimming, hedging, edging, and blowing landscape areas.
- Skilled in operating zero-turn mowers and other groundskeeping equipment.
- Capable of pruning tree limbs and removing trees as needed.
- Experienced in ditch grading to ensure proper water flow.
- Able to operate a variety of equipment necessary to complete grounds maintenance tasks.
- Maintains clean, hazard-free worksites and adheres to safety protocols.
- Follows instructions accurately and communicates effectively with team members.
MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT OPERATING KNOWLEDGE:
- Reads and adheres to safety labels, warnings, and operational guidelines.
- Demonstrates strong attention to detail and situational awareness to ensure safety.
- Possesses basic computer skills and experience with personal computers and peripherals.
- Operates electrical and gas-powered lifts of various sizes.

- Leads the grounds team in the absence of the Grounds Supervisor.
- Assigns and monitors the work of maintenance staff on assigned projects.
- Coordinates staffing for projects with the Lead Mechanic and Supervisor.
- Collaborates with vendors, engineers, contractors, and consultants on landscaping projects.
- Uses the SchoolDude work order system to manage tasks.
- Verifies completion of work and ensures proper closure of work orders.
- Maintains documentation of system installations and maintenance procedures.
- Reads blueprints and engineering instructions to assist with grounds-related construction and remodels.
- Conducts regular inspections to identify issues such as erosion, flooding, or hazardous trees.
- Prepares work areas by removing hazards, grading, leveling, and clearing debris.
- Performs tasks such as raking, blowing, trimming, and pruning.
- Maintains inventory and ensures tools are clean, sharpened, and stored safely.
- Operates heavy equipment and gas-powered tools.
- Identifies and resolves equipment malfunctions.
- Works with manufacturers or field reps to procure replacement parts.
- Provides excellent customer service to support a safe and comfortable learning environment.
- Communicates effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Actively listens to customer preferences and responds appropriately.
- Follows all safety rules and utilizes appropriate safety equipment.
- Promotes and adheres to Board of Public Education policies and departmental procedures.
- Ensures work areas are free of hazards and unauthorized personnel.
- Manages multiple priorities and tasks with frequent interruptions.
- Responds to emergency calls and is available for on-call duty.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Position requires on-call work outside of regularly scheduled hours.
- This position is considered to be "essential personnel, critical staff" when there is an event that creates security challenges or disruptions to district operations. This position may be required to work during identified periods of an emergency as defined in Policy Regulation GBRB-R, Title: Professional Personnel Time Schedules
Work Environment

Duties may require the lifting or pulling of heavy equipment or supplies. Essential functions include reading, listening, writing, and speaking, with some positions requiring exceptional physical and sensory demands.
