Licensed Veterinary Technician

Coastal Virginia Veterinary Dermatology is a multi-doctor specialty clinic servicing the Hampton Roads region with offices in Virginia Beach and Yorktown. We are a growing company with room for career advancement for qualified candidates. Coastal Virginia Veterinary Dermatology is currently seeking an experienced licensed veterinary technician to work in both our Virginia Beach and Yorktown locations. Coastal Virginia Veterinary Dermatology is a full-service dermatology clinic specializing in the management of skin allergies, resistant bacterial infections, chronic otitis, autoimmune skin disorders, and parasitic and fungal skin diseases. A few of our offerings include intradermal skin testing, video otoscopy, skin biopsies, as well as short- and long-term management of various dermatologic conditions. We strive to offer exceptional patient care and are looking for like-minded individuals to join our team.

Job Description

  • Obtain detailed patient histories
  • Restrain pets for exams and procedures
  • Prepare and evaluate skin and ear cytologies under the microscope
  • Prepare prescriptions and explain discharge instructions to clients
  • Extensive client communication and education
  • Prepare materials for and assist with dermatology procedures (intradermal skin testing, biopsy, video otoscope)
  • Place IV catheters, induce, and monitor patients for anesthetic procedures
  • Prepare samples for external laboratory submission
  • 4-day work week Tuesday-Friday with rotating Saturdays (2-3 per year)
  • Employee will work at both our Virginia Beach and Yorktown locations

Job Qualifications

  • Ideally 2+ years as a licensed veterinary technician
  • Current and valid veterinary technician license
  • Commitment to continuing education
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with clients, doctors and support staff; ability to educate clients clearly and compassionately
  • Must be detail-oriented, with strong organizational skills, ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced specialty setting
  • Ability to lift 50lbs
