Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing, to remove plaque and tartar buildup.
- Conduct patient assessments by reviewing medical histories, vital signs, and current dental conditions to inform treatment plans.
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices and post-treatment care to promote long-term dental health.
- Assist the dentist during procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques to improve efficiency and patient comfort.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (medical imaging) while adhering to infection control protocols and aseptic techniques.
- Maintain accurate and detailed medical records, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations and proper documentation review.
- Manage dental office operations related to patient care, including scheduling appointments, updating EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems like Eaglesoft or Dentrix, and reviewing documentation for accuracy.
Skills
- Proficiency in dental software such as Eaglesoft and Dentrix for scheduling, record keeping, and billing.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control standards, and medical coding practices.
- Experience with pediatric dentistry and pediatrics-specific patient care strategies.
- Ability to perform chairside assisting efficiently while maintaining excellent patient rapport.
- Familiarity with vital signs monitoring, medical records management, and HIPAA compliance standards.
- Knowledge of general dentistry procedures as well as specialized pediatric dentistry techniques.
- Excellent communication skills for educating patients about oral health and collaborating with team members effectively.
