Location & Flexibility

Our Engineering Team Leads are integral parts of our Marketing Services team at WillowTree, a TELUS Digital company. To help retain our deep culture of collaboration, this role will maintain an in-office presence in a hybrid capacity [Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays]. This role can be located in Boston, MA, Columbus, OH, Charlottesville, VA, or Durham, NC.

The Opportunity

As an Engineering Team Lead, you'll mentor a team of all levels to help them achieve their personal and professional goals. Your partnership and coaching skills will impact our teams, clients, and company You'll have clear oversight of how engineering runs day-to-day, and you'll influence project outcomes and team happiness.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain high-performance, secure, and scalable full-stack applications using cutting-edge technologies.
  • Lead the design and implementation of software solutions, adhering to best practices and coding standards.
  • Collaborate with product managers and other stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
  • Ensure the quality and reliability of the software through effective testing methodologies, including unit testing and automated testing platforms.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, frameworks, and methodologies to identify opportunities for improvement and implement them as needed.
  • Contribute to the growth of the engineering team by actively participating in the hiring process, conducting interviews, and providing valuable input.
  • You'll embody a growth mindset and apply it in your leadership style.
  • You'll mentor others to help grow their technical and interpersonal skills.
  • Have a deep understanding of software engineering and established best practices.
Qualifications
  • 9+ years of experience in a software engineering capacity
  • Are the subject matter expert with 3+ yrs working in designing, developing, and delivering Adobe AEM and other Adobe technical solutions
  • 2+ years of engineering leadership experience — including leading teams and developing individuals in their career
  • Extensive experience in full-stack web development, including proficiency in JavaScript, , and the MEAN Stack
  • In-depth knowledge of frontend technologies like HTML5, CSS3 (including server-side CSS preprocessors), and responsive UI implementation
  • You're comfortable having difficult conversations and always have your clients' and teammates' best interests in mind
  • Experience presenting complex ideas to clients and team members in a compelling and energetic way
  • You're an empathetic leader that can help find solutions if problems arise with a client
  • You have a desire to contribute sound recommendations and influence product decisions
  • You're excited to work with a diverse team made up of various backgrounds and skill sets
  • You've led the delivery of large and complex software projects from beginning to end in a team-based environment
  • Passion for learning and staying up-to-date with emerging technologies and industry trends
  • Understanding of security considerations in software development and knowledge of best practices.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and experience with tools for continuous integration and deployment
  • Knowledge of software testing methodologies, including unit testing and automated testing platforms.
  • You're self-aware of your limitations, yet curious to learn and grow
  • You're a strong communicator and can navigate ambiguity

  • You've worked in a client services environment (e.g. digital agency)
  • Experience conducting interviews and hiring for your team
  • You have coaching or mentorship experience
  • You've worked in an agile environment
