Computer Vision Co-Op

Boston, Massachusetts, United States LineVision, Inc. Full time $40,000 - $60,000 per year

Scale the computer vision models that power grid intelligence for the next generation of electricity infrastructure.

LineVision uses IoT cameras on transmission towers to detect equipment failures, vegetation risks, and grid conditions in real time. As a Computer Vision Co-Op, you'll own the ML models that analyze millions of images from the field, helping utilities prevent blackouts and maintain critical infrastructure. You'll be trusted to contribute from day one, learning from experienced data scientists and ML engineers while tackling real-world challenges in object detection, segmentation, and model optimization. Join our Boston team at LineVision—named a Built In Best Place to Work for three consecutive years.

What will you do?

Core Responsibilities and Key Performance Objectives

  • Fine-tune and optimize computer vision models for detecting power grid conditions using data from IoT cameras deployed on transmission towers
  • Establish and track model performance metrics as we scale from initial deployments to diverse field environments
  • Research and prototype new CV approaches for detecting critical grid conditions
  • Build and refine training datasets for object detection and segmentation tasks—from labeling and synthesis to quality control and pipeline optimization
  • Build MLOps tools and evaluation frameworks that help the team iterate faster on model improvements
  • Collaborate closely with senior data scientists and software engineers to develop your skills in building production computer vision systems
  • Communicate technical results to diverse audiences from data scientists to business stakeholders, adapting your explanations to different technical backgrounds
What do you need to succeed in this role?
  • Strong Python programming skills and experience applying them to real problems
  • Computer vision and ML fundamentals from coursework or personal projects
  • Hands-on experience with at least one deep learning framework (PyTorch or TensorFlow)
  • Scientific mindset: form hypotheses, validate results, and question unexpected outputs
  • Strong communication skills with ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Rapidly test/evaluate SOTA models using modern libraries (e.g., Huggingface)
  • Exposure to production ML systems or object detection/segmentation tasks
  • Comfort using AI coding assistants (Claude Code, Codex, GitHub Copilot, etc.) to accelerate development
Work Schedule

The ideal candidate would be available for a minimum of 6 months, up to the full 8 month co-op term, working 40 hours a week. LineVision has a standard US holiday schedule, and up to a week of additional unpaid time off is permissible. Upon successful internship or co-op completion, you will be considered for a full-time position upon graduation.

Compensation: $25 per hour

What does joining LineVision mean for you?
  • Impact. Your talent, time, and energy will critically impact our success in accelerating our mission of providing utilities with grid intelligence to enable affordable, reliable power.
  • Ownership. You will hold broad responsibilities with high autonomy and trust in a communicative, collaborative, and fast-paced environment.
  • Flexibility. You will be empowered to maintain work-life balance with trust-based PTO and a flexible hybrid work schedule.
  • Real World Innovation. You will join a motivated and high-performing team working with cutting edge, patented technology to help solve key obstacles to meet the demands of an AI-powered future.
