The Village of Orland Park is currently seeking a creative, outgoing, highly organized and detail-oriented individual to fill the role of Program Coordinator for Seniors, Veterans and Sponsorships to plan, and oversee senior programming including trips, special events and a variety of leisure programs. Additionally, this position will directly support the Village's Veterans Commission assisting with the Hometown Heroes Banner Program, Military Care Package Program, Cookies for the Troops, Memorial Day, Veterans Day, golf outing and other veteran programs and initiatives. This position will also take the lead in identifying, cultivating and securing sponsorships in support of Village and Recreation & Parks Department programs, facilities and events, as directed by the Director of Recreation & Parks, Assistant Director and/or Division Manager of Special Events.

Key Responsibilities

This dynamic position involves planning, developing, implementing and evaluating diverse recreation programs, trips, leisure activities, and special events for senior populations that support health, wellness, social engagement and lifelong learning. The role requires conducting ongoing assessment of community needs and interests to guide program development and enhancement. The employee will design inclusive, accessible programs that reflect best practices in recreation service delivery. Coordinating all operational aspects of assigned programs and events, including scheduling, registration, staffing, transportation, vendors, facilities, and on-site logistics while ensuring compliance with all Village policies, procedures, and risk management standards. This important role will also serve as staff liaison to the Village's Veterans Commission, supporting planning and execution of veteran-focused initiatives including the Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies, Hometown Heroes Banner Program, Military Care Package Program, Cookies for the Troops, golf outing and related events. Additional responsibilities include building and maintaining collaborative relationships with veterans' organizations, community groups, sponsors, volunteers, and internal Village departments. This role is also responsible for leading sponsorship development efforts by identifying prospects, cultivating relationships, preparing sponsorship proposals, and securing financial or in-kind support for Village and Recreation & Parks programs, facilities, and special events while managing sponsor fulfillment, recognition, and stewardship in accordance with Village policies and professional standards.

The role requires assisting with preparing and managing program and event budgets, including revenue projections, expense tracking and financial reporting. The employee will monitor cost recovery goals and recommend pricing strategies consistent with department policies and community expectations. Collaborating with marketing and communications staff to promote programs, events, and sponsorship opportunities through print, digital, and social media platforms. Assisting with development of promotional materials, sponsorship collateral and community outreach efforts. Preparing program evaluations, reports, and documentation to support continuous improvement and accountability. Volunteer and instructor personnel management will include recruiting, scheduling, and directing volunteers for special events, ensuring necessary paperwork such as background checks and waivers are completed in coordination with the Human Resources Department and Village policies/procedures. Regular attendance is required, and the role may involve working evenings, weekends, and some holidays to support special events.

The ability to build a strong rapport in a collaborative team environment, establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, supervisory staff, and the public, is essential.

Additionally, the desired candidate will contribute to the department's efficiency and effectiveness by offering suggestions and by participating as an active member in a team environment.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

The ideal candidate for this position should have a Bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation, Leisure Services, Public Administration, Marketing, Communications, or closely related field, along with a minimum of 2 years of related experience in recreation programming, special events, community engagement, sponsorship development, or a related field. Experience planning and coordinating programs and events for seniors and/or special populations as well as experience working with community organizations, advisory boards, commissions, or volunteer groups. Must have demonstrated experience in sponsorship development, fundraising, and business partnerships. CPR and First Aid certifications are required or must be obtained within 1 year of employment. Certified Park & Recreational Professional designation must be obtained within 3 years of employment.

Additionally, the candidate should have strong attention to detail, be comfortable with outreach and able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. The individual must possess strong oral and written communication skills, organizational abilities, and enthusiasm for working with people. Proficiency in MS Office is required, as well as recreation registration software.

Compensation & Benefits

The Village of Orland Park offers a competitive market total rewards package that includes a base salary range between $60,423.00 and $81,569.00, depending on experience and qualifications. This position is eligible for the Village of Orland Park's comprehensive employee benefits program which includes multiple medical plan designs offered through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, dental, vision, life insurance, and an employee wellness program. Retirement benefits through the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) are provided along with the option to participate in a 457(b) plan with Nationwide Retirement Services.

The Village of Orland Park also provides for paid vacation, personal, sick days, and holidays.
