Discover more at  SummarySupports the Engineering team in the design, development, and testing of a two-piece size 8 contact aimed at improving right-angle contact performance, selective plating options, and overall manufacturing efficiency. This internship provides hands-on experience in product design, prototype testing, and engineering analysis.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesAssist in the design and modeling of the interface between the two contact halves.Conduct Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and participate in design reviews.Collaborate with internal teams and vendors to produce prototype components.Test prototypes for separation force, electrical performance, and other key metrics.Document test results, analyze findings, and recommend design improvements.Perform cost/benefit and manufacturability analyses to determine production feasibility.Support the creation of technical documentation and design calculations.Ensure all work aligns with quality, safety, and engineering standards.Uphold Positronic's standards of integrity, quality, and operational excellence.Identify hazards in the workplace and report them to management and/or the safety coordinator.Collaborate with the EHS department to meet local, state, and federal regulatory requirements, including OSHA, NFPA, DNR, EPA, and Amphenol sustainability practices.Work with the Quality department to ensure compliance with AS9100 certification standards.Comply with all company policies and procedures.Perform other duties as assigned.RequirementsEducation and ExperienceCurrently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Engineering, Engineering Management, Engineering Physics, or Physics.PhysicalRegular walking, standing, sitting, climbing, bending, and crouching.May lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.Use of hand tools, technical equipment, and standard office technology.Internship TimeThis internship will take place in 2026 from May 18th to August 7th.Working ConditionsWork is performed primarily in a production and office environment with exposure to machinery, moderate noise, and standard shop materials.CompetenciesKnowledgeBasic manufacturing processes, quality standards, and materials.Technical drawings, specifications, and production terminology.Microsoft Office, ERP systems, and SolidWorks fundamentals.Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.SkillsStrong analytical and problem-solving abilities.Proficiency in CAD modeling and technical drawing interpretation.Ability to perform and document engineering analyses (FMEA, tolerance, cost, etc).Effective communication and teamwork skills for cross-department collaboration.Attention to detail and commitment to precision in technical work.Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).AbilitiesAbility to apply engineering principles to practical design problems.Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.Strong initiative and willingness to learn new design and testing methods.Ability to interpret and apply feedback from design reviews and testing data.POSITRONIC RESERVES THE RIGHT TO MODIFY, INTERPRET, OR APPLY THIS JOB DESCRIPTION IN ANY WAY THE COMPANY DESIRES.
