Full Time Supervisor - Mrs. E's

We are seeking a dedicated and customer-focused supervisor to support daily operations within a campus dining facility. The supervisor assists with food service, production, sanitation, inventory, and guest experience while supervising staff and maintaining departmental standards. This role opens and closes the facility, provides training, and acts as the manager-on-duty when leadership is unavailable.

Supervision:

Reports to a Management/Executive Sous Chef. Supervises both full-time and part-time staff.

DUTIES & RESONSIBILITIES OF ALL KU MEMORIAL UNION POSITIONS

  1. Adhere to University and KU Memorial Union policies and procedures.
  2. Support the KU Memorial Unions lines of effort, initiatives, and End State as described by the Executive Director, and work to achieve and uphold the department's mission and core values: community, dignity, empowerment, excellence, innovation, and safety.
  3. Follow the 7 Team Principles: competence, creating a cohesive team through mutual trust, creating shared understanding, setting clear leader intent, written/verbal communication, disciplined initiative, and risk management.
  4. Demonstrate a positive, solution-oriented attitude in performing job responsibilities and collaborating with colleagues to foster a respectful and productive work environment.
  5. Always exhibit professional decorum while representing the KU Memorial Unions and the University, including routine events and meetings that occur outside of the office, around campus, and out in the community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Customer Service & Guest Experience

  • Handle difficult or emotional customer situations with professionalism and empathy.
  • Gather and utilize customer feedback to improve service and food quality.
  • Communicate guest comments, equipment concerns, and emerging issues to leadership.

Staff Leadership & Training

  • Oversee daily staff operations, workstations, and performance.
  • Provide training, guidance, and regular feedback to support employee success.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance and performance.
  • Enforce KU Dining policies and standards consistently.

Food Quality & Safety

  • Ensure food presentation meets KU Dining standards for freshness, appearance, and temperature.
  • Comply with ServSafe policies, proper cooking/holding procedures, and sanitation requirements.
  • Coordinate with leadership to identify and resolve product quality issues.

Operational Excellence

  • Assist with staffing considerations, food production, merchandising, and menu management.
  • Support inventory control, count accuracy, and recordkeeping.
  • Maintain clean, sanitary conditions in all food court, dining, production, and storage areas.
  • Ensure signage, menus, and promotional materials are accurate and current.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Foster positive working relationships across Union departments.
  • Address and resolve conflicts to promote a supportive work environment.
  • Communicate operational needs, concerns, and opportunities promptly.

Facility Oversight

  • Open and close the facility according to standard procedures.
  • Assume management duties in the absence of the Manager.
  • Manage assigned stations and zones based on staffing, volume, and business needs.

Other Duties

  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned to support departmental success.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Previous experience in a fast-paced, high-volume food service environment.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience with diverse teams.
  • Customer service experience.
  • Experience supervising, training, and evaluating employees in a customer-service environment.
  • Proficiency with food production and service equipment.
  • Understanding of purchasing, inventory control, and cash handling procedures.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work varied schedules, including opening and closing shifts.
  • Ability to obtain ServSafe certification within six months of hire.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 40 lbs. and perform walking, bending, and stooping tasks.
  • Ability to assume operational responsibility independently.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current ServSafe certification.
