THE ROLE

The HR Generalist plays a vital role in supporting Huntington Place's workforce and HR operations. You'll own recruitment, leave administration, and compliance programs while ensuring the employee experience reflects our culture. This position also serves as the primary back-up for weekly payroll, ensuring continuity and accuracy in all HR processes.

You'll partner across departments to keep policies consistent, people informed, and operations compliant — all while helping shape an engaged, inclusive, and high-performing workplace.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Recruitment & Onboarding:

  • Manage full-cycle recruitment: sourcing, screening, interviewing, and hiring.
  • Partner with department heads to forecast staffing needs and draft job postings.
  • Partner with HR Specialist to expand Day 1 – Orientation into a 90 day-onboarding program.

Compliance, Safety & Reporting

  • Maintain OSHA compliance — report incidents, coordinate training, and track outcomes.
  • Partner with leadership to promote a proactive culture of safety and accountability.
  • Serve as HR's point person for audits and compliance documentation.

Worker's Compensation:

  • Coordinate claims with carriers, ensure timely reporting, and manage return-to-work programs.
  • Maintain accurate records and support investigations when required.

Employee Relations & Conflict Resolution:

  • Conduct investigations and support leaders in resolving workplace concerns.
  • Document findings, ensure follow-up, and uphold confidentiality standards.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to managers in alignment with policy and CBA language.

Leave Administration:

  • Administer FMLA, ADA, and other leave programs (STD, LTD, parental).
  • Coordinate documentation, eligibility, and benefits continuation with employees and vendors.
  • Oversee return-to-work processes and reasonable accommodation efforts.

Payroll Backup:

  • Serve as primary back-up for weekly payroll.
  • Process payroll at least bi-monthly to maintain readiness and accuracy.

Culture & Engagement

  • Support HR-led initiatives around retention, training, and employee recognition.
  • Partner with leadership to ensure HR practices align with company values.

KEY DELIVERABLES

  • Timely, compliant recruitment and onboarding for all open positions.
  • Accurate tracking and reporting of OSHA and FMLA activity.
  • Efficient resolution of employee relations issues.
  • Reliable payroll back-up capability.
  • Consistent application of HR policies and SOPs across departments.
  • All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of HR generalist experience, preferably in a unionized environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of labor law, OSHA standards, and leave administration (FMLA, ADA).
  • Proficiency with ADP EV5 and ABI preferred.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Strong written and verbal communication, with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated conflict-resolution, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with AI-powered productivity tools (e.g., ChatGPT, workflow automation) and a comfort with adopting new technologies to streamline results.
  • High emotional intelligence and professional presence; able to handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • HR certification (SHRM-CP or PHR) preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position operates onsite in a dynamic, live-event environment that requires adaptability, professionalism, and a hands-on approach to supporting teams across multiple departments and shifts. Work is performed both in an office setting and throughout the convention center, including event floors, back-of-house areas, and occasionally outdoor spaces.

The role involves periods of sitting, as well as standing, walking between departments and event spaces, and occasional moving of materials. Flexibility is required to adjust to varying event schedules, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as operational needs arise..
