Work Schedule: Part time, 20 hours/week, weekday schedule
Supports Methodist Health System clinical staff in standardization, utilization and customization of patient education. Working with and evaluating educational materials and information technology platforms to support education for patients will be essential.
Responsibilities:
Essential Functions
Develop and maintain materials and the infrastructure necessary for health care professionals to provide patient centered education throughout the continuum of care. (50%)
- Gathers information to coordinate patient education efforts
- In collaboration with clinical educators, coordinate standardization, approval, implementation, evaluation, periodic review and revision of educational materials to ensure that clinical relevancy and patient education is facilitated.
- Ensure the availability of multimodal teaching materials to meet the needs of patients
- Support the process for formulation of patient education tools that incorporate age-appropriate learning principles, accommodate physical and cognitive limitations, language barriers, and cultural/religious practices.
- Assure custom educational materials adhere to required formatting requirements.
- Comply with health literacy concepts
- Facilitate the process for tracking and archiving patient education material.
- Coordinate translation requests for patient education material
- Facilitate periodic review of patient education materials by subject matter expert
Coordinates organizational initiatives related to patient education design or implementation. (25%)
- Coordinates a process for approval of patient educational materials within the service line/health system departments
- Conduct an enterprise needs assessment for patient education as indicated.
Serves as a resource for initiatives with patient education components. (15%)
- Shares best practices, successes and lessons learned.
- Participates as an active member in committee with patient education components.
- Assist in evaluating metrics for sustainability of educational platforms.
- Facilitate the adoption of electronic documentation of patient education.
- Assists in collecting data for budget requests and resource allocation.
- Identify metrics for adoption and utilization of educational platforms by working with vendors and managers
- Research to identify educational resources that provide age-appropriate learning activities, accommodate different learning styles and take into consideration cultural differences necessary to enhance patient and family understanding.
Adheres to professional standards, hospital policies/procedures, federal, state and local requirements/regulatory standards and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) standards. (10%)
- Utilize evidence based practice to promote excellence in patient education by following regulatory standards.
- Support the efficient and effective use of existing resources and identify gaps in necessary resources.
- Establish networks and partnerships with other organizations and vendors related to patient education.
- Stays up to date in industry trends related to patient education by participating in education opportunities, reviewing published literature/research and maintaining professional networks.
Perform other work assignments as required.

Experience:
- Minimum of three years in a health care related field required.
License/Certification:
- Current clinical license as a health care professional preferred.
