Project Engineer I

The Project Engineer I is responsible for performing engineering and/or CAD tasks on various projects as directed. Work will include the design and applicable permitting of site layouts, grading plans, utility systems, stormwater management, soil erosion and sedimentation control plans, and street improvements on a variety of projects including residential, office, retail, restaurant, infrastructure, and renewable energy for private and public clients. Work may also include grant and loan applications, rate studies, construction administration, traffic control, permitting, local, state, and federal compliance issues, reporting, and public relations/communication.
Requirements
Duties & Responsibilities
· Correspond with private and public agencies
· Assist with preparation of reports using Microsoft Office or other similar software
· Prepare permit applications to federal, state and local agencies
· Assist with preparation of capital improvement plans
· Assist with preparation of quantities for construction estimates
· Assist with preparation of bid documents for private, public, and other governmental agency projects
· Communication with contractors and subcontractors on private and public projects, as necessary
· Assist with preparation of project specifications and standard details
· Perform field inspections of existing water, sewer, road, and other infrastructure as necessary
· Coordinate application approval process; follow up on requests for additional/missing information
· Lead small to mid-sized projects ensuring deadlines, technical aspects, and quality expectations of design intent are met
· Produce drawings using computer assisted design/drafting equipment and software, and/or modify drawings as necessary
· Plot, organize and assemble project-related documents, permit applications, and cut sheets
· Exercise judgment with adaptations of engineering alternatives while adhering to Company standards and methodologies
· Maintain exceptional internal and external client relations
· Achieve performance objectives and financial metrics (see Key Performance Indicator document)
· All other duties as assigned
Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, or related field and/or equivalent combination of education & experience
· EIT or PE license preferred
· 0-4 years applicable experience
· Proficient with AutoCAD Civil 3D
· Proficient with Microsoft Office or similar software
· Must be willing to travel up to 25% of the time in both urban and remote areas
· As necessary under management guidance, ability to work independently on private and/or public projects
· Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to travel to client and project sites
· Excellent written, presentation, interpersonal communication, and concentration skills
· Ability to work collaboratively in diverse teams including technical and non-technical personnel
· Resourceful, action-oriented, creative, and analytical thinker
· Ability to work efficiently and effectively under tight deadlines as well as balance multiple projects by prioritizing effectively
· Strong planning, organization, preparation, and execution capabilities
· Open to new ideas, innovation, and change
· Strong problem solving/analytical skills

· Office and field setting
· Regularly required to sit or walk for long periods of time
· Frequently lifts or moves objects up to 20 pounds
