Accounting Supervisor (4 month contract) – Durham, NC

Our client is seeking a skilled
Accounting Supervisor for a January 2nd or 5th start date.
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Accountant to join our client's finance team in Durham, NC.
This is a 4-month contract opportunity to cover for maternity leave.

As an Accounting Supervisor, you will perform hands-on accounting duties related to efficiently processing day-to-day accounting duties by performing the following duties. This is a contract opportunity working a hybrid schedule in Durham, NC. No visa sponsorship, relocation assistance, or subcontracting arrangements are available.

Position Summary:

This is a hands-on accounting role ideal for someone who enjoys variety and autonomy in their work. Reporting directly to the CFO, the Accounting Supervisor will perform day-to-day accounting functions, and you will also take ownership of key financial operations while reviewing the work of the Accounting Clerk. You'll work closely with other team members across departments to ensure the accuracy and integrity of our financial data and reporting.

Core Accounting Duties:

  1. Manage general ledger and month-end close, including journal entries, accruals, and adjustments.

  2. Oversee Accounts Payable processes; ensure timely and accurate transactions and communications with vendors.

  3. Review and correct GL expense coding as needed.

  4. Administer company cards and monitor spending.

  5. Maintain daily cash forecasts and support monthly cash reconciliations.

  6. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.

  7. Ensure compliance with sales tax, franchise tax, and corporate income tax filings.

  8. Support annual audits and provide required documentation.

Operational & Strategic Support:

  1. Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.

  2. Maintain product cost data and reconcile inventory and COGS.

  3. Conduct product margin reviews and collaborate on pricing decisions.

  4. Drive process improvements and enhance internal controls.

  5. Collaborate with cross-functional teams (operations, supply chain, e-commerce) to ensure data accuracy and alignment.

  6. Provide financial insights and ad hoc reporting to leadership.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA preferred.

  2. 3+ years of progressive accounting experience; experience in a small business or entrepreneurial environment preferred.

  3. Strong understanding of GAAP and accounting best practices.

Proficiency with accounting systems (e.g., SageIntacct, , or similar) is must
