Umialik Insurance Company, a member of the Western National Insurance Group, is seeking an Underwriting Support Specialist to join our Commercial Lines Team

The individual in this role will provide quality administrative support to underwriters and agencies by rating and entering transactions into established systems for commercial lines. This position offers a solid training program, ongoing support from team members, and an ongoing career path in the company.

What are the responsibilities and opportunities of this role?

  • Works within standard operating procedures and established practices to provide timely customer service to underwriters and agencies.
  • Rates and enters transactions for commercial lines business with a primary focus on operations.
  • Acts as the starting point for the department's transactions and quickly determines to which area the transaction should be directed.
  • Keeps accurate and current records in designated systems that are accessible to others.
  • Updates routine reports and assesses the information for clarity.

Requirements

What are the must-have qualifications for a candidate?

  • Ability to proofread written and electronic documents to identify and correct errors.
  • Intermediate Word and Excel skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to make independent business decisions when required.
  • Ability to manage a heavy workflow of incoming transactions.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

What will our ideal candidate have?

  • Previous insurance experience is preferred, but not required.
  • Basic PointIn system and / or similar policy administrative system knowledge is preferred.
  • Interest in continuing to grow and learn in the insurance industry is preferred.
  • Coursework towards AINS certification is preferred.

Compensation overview

The full hiring range for this role is $ $25.69 hourly. However, the base pay offered may vary depending on the job-related knowledge, skills, credentials, and experience of each candidate as well as other factors such as the scope and location of the role. Candidates looking for compensation outside of the posted range are encouraged to apply and will be considered based on their individual qualifications and/or may be considered for other positions.
