Position Title: Program Assistant, Fellowships Program
Grade Level: Grade 3 - FLSA Non-Exempt
Reports to: Director, Fellowships Program

The Program Assistant is responsible for a wide range of programmatic, administrative, research, financial, and other responsibilities in support of NED's Fellowships Program, an international exchange program based at NED's International Forum for Democratic Studies that hosts Reagan-Fascell Democracy Fellows, Visiting Fellows, youth activists, and beneficiaries of the Carl Gershman Fund for Democracy Advocates at Risk.
This is a hybrid position based in Washington, DC., and is part of the bargaining unit.
Primary Responsibilities- Coordinates administrative, logistical, and financial procedures, including payment requests, fellowship stipend payments, travel arrangements, and housing
- Facilitates annual fellowship selection processes
- Contributes to the cultural, intellectual, and collegial life of the international exchange program
- Handles events hosted by the Fellowships Program, including scheduling and execution of fellows' presentations and other convenings
- Provides research, written, and editorial support for Fellows' projects and products
- Facilitates Fellows' networking and outreach during their time in residence
- Aids in the preparation and execution of Fellows' presentations
- Supports the program's efforts on behalf of democracy advocates at risk, including the administration of the Carl Gershman Fund
- Develops content for promotional materials, publications, website, and social media
- Contributes to other priorities, projects, and fellowship activities of the International Forum for Democratic Studies, as needed
- Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer. NED does not provide visa sponsorship and will not consider candidates who now or in the future require employment visa sponsorship.
- Bachelor's degree in political science or a related field required
- 1-2 years of work experience in a field related to democracy and human rights, interest in and experience with international exchange programs preferred
- Interest in and experience working with democracy advocates, civil society leaders, and human rights defenders a plus
- Knowledge of, and familiarity with, Microsoft Office Suite, Canva, MailChimp, and WordPress
- Experience with budgeting and database management, as well as proficiency with social media and web development, a plus
- Excellent verbal, written, administrative, and interpersonal communication skills
- Meticulous attention to detail, and ability to multi-task
- High degree of organization and initiative
- Highly collaborative and works well within a team environment

The anticipated compensation range for this position is $21.87 to $31.61 hourly.
The salary for this position is determined based on a wide variety of factors, including but not limited to an individual's professional experience, qualifications, education, and other business needs along with internal equity considerations. Employees are not typically hired at the top of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are based on the aforementioned circumstances.
