About The Role

We are seeking a Senior Civil/Structural Designer to support the planning, layout, and design of industrial facilities and steel mill projects. This role is deal for an experienced designer with strong field awareness and the ability to identify design conflicts, constructability issues, and cross-disciplinary impacts.

This is a senior, individual-contributor position with significant influence – perfect for someone who thrives on solving complex site and structural challenges and collaborating across disciplines.

Key Responsibilities

Site Development & Layout

• Develop site layouts for industrial facilities, including grading, drainage, roadways, rail access, and equipment placement
• Balance cut/fill quantities and determine final site grades
• Lay out stormwater features (ponds, culverts, ditches) in coordination with electrical and piping teams
• Evaluate vehicle and rail movement to ensure safe and efficient site flow

Structural & Civil Coordination

• Support basic foundation and structural steel design, layout, and detailing
• Incorporate vendor equipment layouts into site and structural plans
• Assist with layout of substations and small utility piping runs

Drawing Review & Quality Control

• Review civil, structural, piping, and electrical drawings to identify conflicts, clearance issues, and constructability concerns
• Perform multidisciplinary drawing checks prior to issuance
• Review vendor drawings and provide comments for approval

Field Verification & Collaboration

• Conduct periodic field visits to take measurements and verify existing conditions
• Work closely with civil/structural, electrical, and piping teams to resolve issues and maintain alignment throughout design

Qualifications

Required

• 7+ years of civil/structural design experience with industrial or heavy commercial environments
• Strong experience in site layout, grading, drainage, and civil design
• Ability to interpret structural, piping, and electrical drawings and understand cross-disciplinary impacts
• Experience identifying constructability issues and resolving design conflicts
• Proficiency with AutoCAD or similar design platforms
• Working knowledge of OSHA and general industrial safety considerations
• Ability to conduct field measurements and verify site conditions

Preferred

• Experience with steel mills, manufacturing facilities, or heavy industrial projects
• Familiarity with survey requirements for civil/structural design
• Exposure to basic foundation detailing, structural steel layout, or utility/piping substation design
