The Montana Department of Revenue administers almost 40 state taxes, property appraisals, liquor laws, and unclaimed property for the state of Montana. The Director's Office Division provides support for the Director and department employees relating to tax policy, legal, human resources, training, communications, taxpayer assistance, dispute resolution, call center, accounting, budgeting, asset management, and facilities and purchasing.

DUTIES

Job Overview:

This position resides in the Director's Office Division of Department of Revenue. Duties include being the primary contact for internal and external customers and is the primary contact for providing information to customers about unclaimed property that has been escheated to the State of Montana. The incumbent provides information and technical assistance and resolves problems regarding taxes, fees and licenses, unclaimed property, business personal property reporting, livestock reporting, and Department web-based filing and payment processes. The position does not supervise other staff.

Knowledge and Skills:

·       Principles and practices of licensing, registration, application, valuation, and processing for various tax types

·       Federal and state statutes, administrative rules, policies, and procedures

·       Department business practices

·       Office operations and business communications

·       Records management

·       Rules, procedures, and operations related to identifying and locating taxpayers and determining the extent of their tax liabilities (regulations regarding corporations, out-of-state taxpayers, bankruptcy, amended forms, bad debts, etc.)

·       Research techniques to identify and locate individuals and validate identities

·       Customer service standards

·       Research and analysis

·       Accuracy and attention to detail

·       Conflict resolution & customer service

·       Microsoft programs and other data base applications

·       Written, verbal, and interpersonal communication

Working Conditions

  • Work hours may exceed 40 hours from time to time, including weekends.
  • Office environment.
  • Lifting is infrequent, less than 15 pounds.

REMOTE/TELEWORK: This position may be eligible to work from an approved worksite; however the successful candidate must be a primary resident of Montana as a condition of employment. This position would be required to report to a Department of Revenue office assigned by the supervisor. Employees must meet and sustain Department of Revenue telework eligibility requirements and supervisor's approval to participate in the DOR Telework Program. Fulltime telework is not available.

Training Assignment:  This agency may use a training assignment. Employees in training assignments may be paid below the base pay established by the agency pay rules. Conditions of the training assignment will be stated in writing at the time of hire.

Successful applicants are required to successfully pass DOR tax and background check(s).

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

The minimum level needed on the first day of work is

· High School Diploma

· Two years of directly related work experience with customer service.

· Other combinations of education and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis.
