Position Overview

The Timken Museum of Art seeks a creative and motivated Social Media & Marketing Intern to support our development and communications efforts. This internship offers hands-on experience in arts marketing, digital engagement, and community outreach within a dynamic museum environment. The ideal candidate is passionate about the arts, social media savvy, and eager to learn about museum operations and audience engagement.

Key Responsibilities

Content Creation & Social Media Management

  • Assist in developing engaging content for Instagram, Facebook, and other social media platforms
  • Create graphics, write captions, and schedule posts that highlight exhibitions, programs, and collection highlights
  • Monitor social media engagement and respond to community comments and messages
  • Research social media trends and best practices in the arts and museum sector

Marketing Support

  • Assist with the creation of marketing materials including email campaigns, member communications, and promotional flyers
  • Support press outreach efforts for museum events and programs
  • Help maintain and update content on the museum website
  • Assist with photography and videography during museum events and programs

Community Engagement

  • Support member events, community programs, and special initiatives
  • Help coordinate and promote public programs such as gallery talks, workshops, and special celebrations
  • Assist with on-site event execution as needed

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a program in Marketing, Communications, Art History, Arts Administration, or related field
  • Strong writing and visual communication skills
  • Proficiency with social media platforms, particularly Instagram and Facebook
  • Basic knowledge of design tools (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar) preferred
  • Photography/videography skills a plus
  • Interest in art, museums, and cultural programming
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Enthusiasm for engaging diverse audiences and promoting accessibility in the arts

  • Part-time position hours per week, flexible schedule)
  • Duration: 2 months minimum, 2 days a week minimum
  • Compensation: [Stipend amount or unpaid with academic credit option]
  • Hybrid work arrangement possible with regular in-person presence required for events and content creation
