Job Description
Position Title: Construction Manager
Location: Miami, FL
Your role
The Construction Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of construction projects with a focus on end-to-end data center development (greenfield through commissioning as well life cycle replacements). This will include providing leadership to contractors, consultants and equipment vendors associated with the delivery of DLR Projects. The Construction Manager may also be assigned the responsibility for outsourced Owner Representative/Project Managers who will provide additional management support for the delivery of the project(s). Project assignments will generally be regional; however, projects out of region may be assigned. The Construction Manager will manage challenging deliverables against aggressive project expectations and will report to the Director of Delivery. The candidate will have overall responsibility for delivering the assigned project(s) on budget (heavy emphasis on value-engineering) on time and assurance that the project scope and quality meet the DLR Design Standards and the objectives set for the project.

What You'll Do
You will work closely with various other DLR stakeholders including in house design managers, procurement specialists, sales representatives and building operations staff.

For Build-to-Suit Projects, the Construction Manager will be the primary customer contact to ensure that all day to day project responsibilities are met by the various design professionals, contractors and vendors on the project. For standard projects you will help insure the project is executed to DLR internal design engineering standards.

Manage multiple projects simultaneously. Project site visits will be required for partner meetings and to audit jobsite project, issue resolution, etc.

Assist with preparation of requests for proposals to Contractors, Consultants, and Equipment Vendors including detailed evaluations and recommendations. Negotiate/write contracts with contractors, consultants and vendors as necessary.

Ensure adherence to DLR Project Delivery / Management Standards by all project participants, on all projects.

Complete monthly project status reporting

Develop and maintain strong relationships with contractor partners, consultants and equipment vendors.

What You'll Need

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management or related field.
  • 5-8 years of experience in datacenter and/or technically demanding developments focused on Quality Assurance and Control, with progressive management experience in a relevant field. Will consider candidates with less experience that have a strong desire for learning and professional development.
  • Strong project management experience of technically complex projects is desired with a track record of successful project completions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Strong relationship and interpersonal skills are required. Ability to work in a team environment. Self-motivated, able to work independently with minimal oversight.
  • Requires working knowledge of design and construction terms, principles and contracts.
  • Financial acumen to review, analyze and create development budgets and estimates.
  • Must have a comprehensive understanding of advanced electrical, mechanical, security/monitoring, and fire detection/suppression systems.
  • Understanding of standard practices in the design and construction industry. Must be familiar with basic building code requirements.
  • Ability to understand and interpret design drawings, construction drawings, construction specifications, design and construction contracts, project schedules and detailed budgets / estimate summaries.
  • Understanding of commissioning fundamentals, particularly in relation to integrating schedules and commissioning for mechanical, electrical, and ICT elements,
  • Experienced in the use of MS Office software and AutoCAD (desired) including familiarity with construction-related digital tools, systems and project oversight.
  • Ability to confidently and succinctly communicate complex technical challenges to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including customers and contractors.
  • Familiarity with the full project life cycle, from planning and design to permitting, construction, commissioning, and IST, ensuring quality standards are maintained throughout.
  • Strong organizational and risk management skills, with the ability to effectively identify, assess, and mitigate risks within a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.
