"Highly qualified"; status according to KSDE and federal regulations
Or
- Five years of automotive industry experience plus industry-recognized credentials
And
Ability to proctor students for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) __ ASE Student Certification
Must have the following certifications
ASE A4 Steering & Suspension
- ASE A5 Brakes
- ASE A6 Electrical
- ASE G1 Maintenance & Light Repair

Job Goal:
As an automotive technology instructor, you will demonstrate - through hands-on training and classroom instruction proper technique, and safety procedures which are essential skills of professional automotive technicians. The Automotive Tech Instructor will teach and instruct high school students through class demonstrations, lectures, audio-visual aids, and hands-on training. The automotive technology instructor will provide instruction in the basic techniques of the automotive industry; prepare students for immediate entry into the automotive industry or to continue studies at post-secondary institutions; plan, develop, organize, and conduct a comprehensive automotive program for secondary students.
Performance and Responsibilities:
Teach concepts and skills in the automotive industry such as, but not limited to: engine rebuilding, tune-up, lubrication, ignition, wheel/tire balancing, alignment, fuel systems, transmission/transaxles, chassis and body, electrical systems, brakes, suspension and steering, axles/drive axles/differentials, engine performance and emissions, air conditioning and heating, and other related automotive applications to secondary students utilizing a course of study adopted by USD 497
Coordinate and supervise work-based learning projects within the campus or community-based projects.
Develop effective lesson plans that follow state-approved Career Technical Education (CTE) standards and develop and demonstrate industry skills and concepts using frequent hands-on activities, models, teacher-prepared instructional aids, supplies, technology, and lab experiences on and off campus.
Guide students in making career-related decisions and provide students with instruction on general employment skills including (but not limited to) communication skills, job retention skills and resume writing.
Develop industry partnerships and collaborate with partners regarding program initiatives and training methodologies.
Use a variety of teaching materials and techniques as appropriate for the content area.
Use a variety of teaching materials and techniques as appropriate for all students/adults as assigned.
Provide for regular assessment of student/adult needs and progress.
Provide for appropriate re-teaching, adaptation, and/or extensions if needed.
Provide evidence of individual student/adult learning.
Prepare for assigned classes and can show evidence of such preparation.
Demonstrate effective skills in reading, writing, math, and speaking as necessary for the assignment.
Demonstrate command of the subject matter for which he/she is assigned to teach/coordinate.
Implement the district's written curriculum and the state and district assessment program.
Demonstrate commitment to learn and apply new instructional and technology skills as related to assignment.
Work with other members of the staff in planning building or district curriculum, instructional goals, objectives, methods, and assessments.
Attend and participates in assigned staff/team meetings.
Cooperate with others regarding the selection, use, and sharing of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students.
Develop and maintains a classroom environment conducive to learning.
Establish and maintain communications with students, parents, colleagues, and others as related to assignment.

Demonstrate respect and value for all students and staff.
Maintain professional and ethical standards.
Meet and instruct students/adults at designated location and times.
Uphold and enforce school rules, district policies, and administrative regulations.
Maintain state certification/licensure standards for teachers in the field for which he/she is assigned.
Critical Skills:
Possess and maintain licensure (certification) in the state of Kansas
Ability to speak clearly and audibly to various groups expressing ideas in a logical and forthright manner
Possess composition skills suitable for producing written communication for a variety of readers
Ability to quickly analyze a situation and provide prompt advice
Ability to respond to information requests in a courteous, timely and helpful manner
Ability to perform job responsibilities using appropriate software on district computer system and communication equipment
Ability to manage job responsibilities while meeting established deadlines
Ability to work constructively and cooperatively with others
Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor
