Job Overview:

McDermott is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Engineering Intern to join our Construction Support Engineering (CSE) team for the Summer 2026 term. This is an excellent opportunity for a student to gain hands-on experience with global offshore construction projects. The intern will work alongside experienced engineers, providing support for the construction and installation of offshore platforms and subsea infrastructure. You will apply your academic knowledge to real-world challenges and contribute to impactful global projects.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • As a CSE Intern, you will assist our senior engineers with a variety of tasks, including:
  • Engineering Support: Assist with fundamental structural and mechanical calculations for various phases of offshore installation, such as structures load out, transportation to installation site and lifting operations
  • Design and Drafting: Support the design of temporary installation aids like lugs, padeyes, rigging, and sea-fastening arrangements for structures and mission equipment. You will help create and modify engineering drawings using AutoCAD and Inventor
  • Technical Documentation: Contribute to the preparation of technical documents, including design reports, technical notes, and construction sequence drawings under the guidance of a mentor
  • Software Exposure: Gain valuable exposure to industry-standard software tools used for design and analysis, such as MathCAD, SACS, and ANSYS.
  • Industry Standards: Learn about the practical application of major offshore design codes (e.g., API, AISC, DnV) in project execution

Essential Qualifications and EducationL

  • Currently enrolled full-time in a Bachelor of Science program in Civil, Structural, Mechanical Engineering, or Naval Architecture from an accredited university
  • Expected graduation date of May 2028 or earlier
  • Strong understanding of fundamental engineering principles (e.g., statics, mechanics of materials, dynamics)
  • Basic experience with 2D drafting using AutoCAD
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a high level of attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications and Education:

  • Familiarity with 3D modeling software (like Inventor) or calculation/analysis software (ANSYS, SACS)
