POSITION SUMMARY
The HES Coordinator is responsible for strategic oversight, compliance, and program management of Chemcut's Safety Program. The Coordinator also provided hands-on implementation and operational field support.
The HES Technician is responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and improving the company's health, environmental, and safety regulations, perform inspections, manage hazardous materials, and help promote a culture of safety within the organization. The HES Technician will work closely with the HES Coordinator to help shape and implement the company's safety culture and programs.
*In the event that the HES Coordinator is assigned a HES Technician to provide assistance, the responsibilities of the HES Technician are noted below*.
Although the details of the posting list two separate positions, HES Coordinator and HES Technician, we are looking to hire a single candidate. Compensation, title, and position responsibilities will be commensurate with experience.
Essential Responsibilities for both positions include:
- Maintain confidentiality – must be able to handle sensitive information and always maintain strict confidentiality.
- Workers' Compensation / Claims Coordination – responsibilities include assisting with workers' compensation matters and supporting the processing and management of claims.
- Return-To-Work Monitoring – monitor and coordinate modified or light-duty assignments for injured employees, ensuring compliance with return-to-work guidelines.
- Reporting Structure – clearly follow established reporting lines and communicate effectively with supervisors, managers, and relevant departments.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
HES Coordinator responsibilities:
· Oversees regulatory compliance and develops HES program.
· Conducts comprehensive risk assessments and leads incident investigations
· Develops and delivers safety training initiatives for all levels of the organization
· Manages internal/external audits and maintains official records (e.g., OSHA 300 logs, chemical inventories)
· Oversees the Chemcut safety plan, HES Technician and safety team members when they are performing safety-related tasking
· Oversees implementation of Health and Safety programs including training, written programs, facilitating Safety Committee and accident/injury reporting.
· Involved in the design and development of facilities, work areas and work procedures, and makes environmental, health and safety recommendations accordingly
- Responsible for annual budgeting for safety/environmental projects.
- Activities of in-house pretreatment operations.
- Responsible for preparing, maintaining, and updating environmental policy and procedure manuals
- Maintain current, written emergency plans and act as emergency coordinator.
- Ensures compliance with all environmental, health and safety regulations, and keeps abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization.
- Prepare site's reports for DOL, OSHA, SARA, RCRA, CWA, TSCA, etc.
- Serves as contact with all federal, state and local regulatory bodies
- Commitment to and active participation in the organization's Total Quality Program
- Performs other duties as assigned.
*HES Technician responsibilities:
· Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other local, state, and federal regulations related to workplace safety and environmental protection.
· Hazardous Materials Management: Monitor and manage the handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials in accordance with company policies and legal requirements.
· Workplace Safety Inspections: Conduct regular safety inspections of facilities, equipment, and work processes to identify potential hazards and recommended corrective actions.
· Emergency Response: Assist in the development and implementation of emergency response procedures, conduct drills. Will arrange first aid and CPR training as needed
· Safety Training: Lead safety training programs for employees, ensuring that all staff are properly trained in safety protocols, equipment handling, and emergency procedures.
· Incident Reporting: Investigate accidents, injuries, and near-misses to determine root causes and assist in the implementation of corrective actions to prevent future incidents.
· Environmental Monitoring: Conduct environmental impact assessments, track emissions, and ensure that Chemcut' s operations align with environmental standards.
· Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training sessions, audits, and compliance reports. Prepare and submit reports to management and regulatory agencies as required.
· Continuous Improvement: Stay up to date with the latest health, safety, and environmental regulations and best practices and work on continuous improvement of the company's HES program.
· Operate Waste Treatment System: Daily operations and monitoring, including sampling, POTW reporting, and performing yearly inspections with the POTW coordinator
· Safety Committee: Conduct monthly safety committee meetings.
· Serves as a primary point of contact for spill response and other workplace emergencies
· Performs other duties as assigned.
HES Coordinator Supervisory Responsibilities:
· Manages the HES Technician as needed.
· Ensures that the HES Technician and Safety Team have the necessary resources and training.
· Oversees the daily workflow and schedules of the HES Technician.
· Responsible for installing and verifying effectiveness of corrective actions.
· Assists in discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
HES Coordinator:
· May require a Bachelor's Degree in area of specialty and 3-5 years of experience in field or in a related area.
· Must have knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures.
HES Technician
· High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree in environmental health and safety (EH&S), Occupational Safety, or related field preferred
· Minimum of 2 years of experience in a Health, Environmental, and Safety (HES) role, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment
- Certifications: OSHA 30-Hour General Industry Certification, First Aid, CPR, or other safety-related certifications preferred. - Must be completed within 90 days of hire.

· Strong knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements related to Health and Environmental Safety (e.g., EPA/PADEP/POTW, OSHA, DOT), hazardous material handling, and workplace safety protocols.
· Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with employees and management
· Strong supervisory and leadership skills with the ability to effectively train others.
· Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
· Thorough understanding of materials and supplies used in the company.
· Proficient computer skills - particularly Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
· Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
· Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
· Must be able to access all areas of the facility to determine needs and the ability to work in various environmental conditions.
· May require travel up to 5-10%.
