About the Role

We are seeking a skilled
Embedded Software Engineer
to contribute to advanced satellite and space systems projects. The successful candidate will be involved in full lifecycle development — from requirements and design through implementation, testing, and integration — helping create next-generation communication and control systems for spacecraft.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain embedded software for spacecraft avionics, communications, and telemetry systems.
  • Implement and integrate software to support RF transceivers, modems, and encryption components for secure communications.
  • Develop command and telemetry handling software for packet routing, validation, and protocol management.
  • Create device drivers and application interfaces for RF and telemetry hardware, including encryption and key-handling modules.
  • Conduct end-to-end testing of command and telemetry links, including hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) validation.
  • Build and execute simulations to verify performance of encrypted communication links.
  • Participate in integration, testing, and troubleshooting of hardware and software subsystems.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to define data formats, timing requirements, and system interfaces.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation covering requirements, design, testing, and verification.
  • Support mission-readiness reviews, ground demonstrations, and subsystem validation activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience developing embedded software for aerospace, defense, or other mission-critical systems.
  • Strong programming proficiency in
    C/C++
    for embedded environments.
  • Familiarity with RF communication systems and spacecraft telemetry concepts.
  • Understanding of interfaces such as RS-422, MIL-STD-1553, CAN, SpaceWire, or Ethernet.
  • Proven analytical, debugging, and problem-solving abilities in integrated system environments.
  • Eligibility to obtain a U.S. security clearance.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for testing or integration activities.

Preferred Skills

  • Master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Background in flight software development or spacecraft communications integration.
  • Experience with
    Python
    or
    MATLAB
    for scripting and data analysis.
  • Familiarity with version control and collaboration tools (Git, Bitbucket, JIRA, Confluence).
  • Development experience on
    real-time operating systems (RTOS)
    such as VxWorks, RTEMS, or FreeRTOS.
  • Understanding of secure communications and encryption key management practices.
  • Exposure to ground systems or mission operations software.
  • Knowledge of RF link budgets, modulation, and bit error rate testing.
  • Hands-on experience with lab-based system integration and validation testing.
  • Experience working with Type 1 encryption hardware or similar secure communication devices.
  • Familiarity with CCSDS or comparable ground communication standards.
  • Understanding of spacecraft autonomy, fault detection, and fault management concepts.
  • Experience creating or utilizing digital twins or HIL systems for validation and verification.
  • Prior leadership or mentorship experience within cross-functional software teams.
