Activities & Smoking Aide

Corner View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center – Pittsburgh, PA

Corner View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center is seeking a compassionate and energetic Activities & Smoking Aide to join our team. This role is vital in supporting residents' physical, mental, and emotional well-being through engaging recreational programs while also ensuring safe, supervised access to our designated smoking areas.

Responsibilities:

Activities

  • Assist in planning and leading daily activities, group programs, one-on-one visits, and special events.
  • Encourage resident participation by offering motivation, companionship, and individualized support.
  • Transport residents to and from activities and help prepare activity spaces.
  • Document attendance and participation while adapting activities to meet residents' unique needs.
  • Assist with calendars, newsletters, and community event planning.

Smoking Supervision

  • Escort and supervise residents to and from designated smoking areas at scheduled times.
  • Ensure compliance with facility policies, fire safety, and infection control.
  • Monitor residents to prevent unsafe behaviors and assist with lighting/extinguishing cigarettes.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the smoking area and dispose of ashtrays/waste properly.
  • Report concerns, hazards, or violations to nursing staff or administration.

General

  • Communicate effectively with residents, families, and staff.
  • Maintain supplies and equipment in an organized, safe manner.
  • Follow all safety, infection control, and resident rights protocols.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education in recreation, social services, or healthcare preferred.
  • Experience with older adults in healthcare or recreational settings preferred.
  • Compassionate, patient, and enthusiastic personality with strong communication skills.
  • Must be able to tolerate outdoor environments and exposure to smoke.
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 25 lbs.
  • Flexible schedule with availability for evenings, weekends, and holidays.
