SpacecraftPayload Mechanical Analyst
Optimum Technologies (OpTech) seeks a full-time Spacecraft/Payload Mechanical Analyst to perform both mechanical analyses (static and dynamic) and thermal analysis for LEO spacecraft and buses, and GEO spacecraft and buses. The ideal candidate can communicate across the team, from systems engineers to I&T teams, with the ability to burrow deeply into complex design issues and interfaces.
Essential Functions:
- Construct FEM models in FEMAP [FS1] using STP files and Creo files.
- Run static and dynamic analyses on spacecraft, payloads, and structural components.
- Evaluate static and dynamic model/FEM results and determine solutions to areas of concern (high stress, high strain, shearing, etc.) and support iterations until a design closes.
- Have experience/knowledge in resolving design issues when a FEM shows areas of concern and even failures.
- Construct Thermal Desktop models of spacecraft and payloads.
- Have extensive knowledge with spacecraft materials and devices, i.e., Heat pipes, MLI, radiators, etc., that can be used to resolve spacecraft and payload thermal issues (hot and cold).
- Conduct iterations of the thermal design within Thermal Desktop for launch and ascent environments, initial orbits, boost transfer operations, and final orbits.
- Support STK work that augments and complements thermal efforts.
- Know orbital mechanics.
- Have experience performing model correlation through vibration and acoustics testing and thermal vacuum testing.
- Support MLI design, development, and fabrication.
- Support selection of thermal conductive materials and coatings.
- Document analyses results.
- Present analyses results both internally and to customers.
- Assist in the development of installation work instructions and testing work instructions.
- Support testing activities.
- Develop and present design change requests, coordinate with impacted internal and external stakeholders, to ensure configuration control of the technical baseline.
Identify risks and opportunities associated with or driven by design factors.
Develop documented processes, specifications, and work instructions that support the design and manufacture of payloads.
- Collaborate and communicate with multi-functional teams and customers.
- Able to work independently with minimum supervision, positive demeanor, and high ethics.
Basic Qualifications:
- STEM bachelor's degree with 7+ years of prior relevant experience.
- Capable of performing FEM analyses and resolving design issues found during FEM efforts.
- Capable of performing thermal analyses in Thermal Desktop.
- Significant experience in thermal modeling and thermal design.
- Significant experience in Dynamic design and conducting FEMs.
- Extensive knowledge of satellite operations.
- Experience using Microsoft (MS) Word, Excel, Power Point, MS Project and Engineering Scheduling tools or applications.
- Experience briefing program leadership and driving program execution.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Working experience with companies in the Aerospace and Defense field is a plus.
- STK user.
- Must have the ability to obtain a clearance.
- Ability to learn new applications as required.
