Position Summary
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station. The Associate Director of Carolina K-12 supports the Director in leading statewide initiatives that provide free, high-quality professional development and resources to North Carolina educators in history, civics, and the humanities. Carolina K-12 is the K-12 engagement arm of Carolina Public Humanities, fostering collaboration among K-12 teachers, university scholars, museums, and cultural organizations to advance inquiry-based and inclusive education. This position serves as a collaborator in designing and delivering professional learning programs-including regional seminars, teacher retreats, and curricular projects that amplify teacher agency, strengthen civic literacy, and promote historical understanding across North Carolina's classrooms. The Associate Director will co-lead strategic planning and oversee select projects, ensuring all initiatives align with Carolina K-12's mission of equity, truth-telling, and democratic engagement. The role requires program management, partnership cultivation, and curriculum development skills, with a focus on scaling the reach and sustainability of Carolina K-12's statewide impact. The Associate Director also contributes to grant management, communications, and evaluation of federally and foundation-funded initiatives such as, but not limited to, the William Friday Teachers Retreat, America 250 NC Freedom Fellows, and Africa to Carolina.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, And Experience
Ability to design and facilitate educator workshops, retreats, or learning programs. Strong commitment to culturally responsive pedagogy in educational practice. Proven project management, communication, and collaboration skills. Ability to travel within North Carolina and work occasional weekends for program.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, And Experience
Experience in K-12 education, curriculum design, or professional development. Demonstrated experience in coordinating large-scale educator or professional development events, including scheduling, logistics, and on-site facilitation for teacher workshops, conferences,or retreats. Experience managing federal or foundation-funded education programs, including reporting and compliance. Familiarity with North Carolina's educational landscape, standards, and teacher professional development systems. Experience with partnership development in museums, cultural institutions, or higher education. Background in history, civics, or humanities-based instruction. Experience supervising staff, interns, or volunteers. Proficiency in digital tools for outreach, program delivery, and data tracking.

Work Schedule
Monday – Friday, 8AM – 5PM, some evenings and weekends will be required.
