The department of Community Health and Preventative Medicine has an immediate need for a Program Coordinator.

The Program Coordinator will assist with processes and procedures for the Choice Neighborhood Program. Responsibilities include planning, organizing and managing daily operations; program policy and procedure design and implementation; and associated business functions. This position will also assist with marketing the program and defending program goals and objectives before a governing body.

Choice Neighborhood Program:

Morehouse School of Medicine has partnered with Atlanta Housing (AH) as part of the People strategy for the Choice Neighborhoods Implementation Grant to revitalize the former Bowen Homes. The area includes the surrounding neighborhoods of Carey Park and a portion of Almond Park, along with the neighborhood-related segments of the Donald Lee Hollowell and James Jackson parkways, collectively known as the Bowen Choice Neighborhood (BCN).

AH has been working to develop strategies and focus resources in three areas consistent with the grant requirements: Housing, Neighborhood and People. The Housing strategy supports the redevelopment of the former Bowen Homes site, with more than $300 million allocated for housing. The Neighborhood strategy focuses on residential and commercial blight removal, neighborhood housing development, acquisition and clean-up of contaminated properties, and public safety. The CN Neighborhood budget is more than $200 million. The People strategy focuses on developing programs that will improve health, education and economic outcomes for former Bowen residents and the BCN community. Morehouse School of Medicine serves as the health lead within the BCN People strategy.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION:

  • Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution.

EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of two (2) years of related experience in community health programs.
  • Must type 35 WPM and be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution.

Job Duties

Description of Job Duty

  • Plans, coordinates and administers activities within assigned program areas; develops, coordinates and advises on policy related to specified programs.
  • Provides administrative assistance to departmental staff within assigned program areas to support the accomplishment of program objectives; develops, coordinates and advises staff regarding program policy.
  • Plans, coordinates and administers activities of assigned programs to include developing, implementing, and supervising related procedures, processes, services and systems; trains employees in proper methods and procedures and ensures correctness of work
  • Develops, plans, coordinates and implements activities including, but not limited to, seminars, conferences, workshops, short courses, clubs, shows, public events and other related programs; develops and coordinates new ideas and concepts for program themes, materials and resources to supplement, expand or replace existing program components.
  • Monitors and evaluates program effectiveness, investigates trends, and recommends and implements modifications to improve program effectiveness.
  • Maintains liaison with other programs, offices and departments at MSM and within the community to coordinate program business and to accomplish program objectives; interfaces with external organizations as appropriate to ensure cooperative efforts are enhanced and available resources are utilized.
  • Assists in the preparation of budgets and grants; monitors, verifies and reconciles expenditure of budgeted funds as appropriate.
