About the Position

East Asian Studies and Office of Global Engagement seek qualified candidates for Fall Quarter 2026 (September 16-December 16) or Winter Quarter 2027 (January 5 – March 19).  The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching one 5-credit course in any academic discipline, with a focus on the study of Mongolia; plus an additional 3 hours per week in relevant professional service related to the Western Libraries Mongolia Collection and promotion of Mongolian Studies in the campus and local communities.

The Visiting Lecturer will be expected to be current in their discipline, to engage students actively in their own learning, and to maintain high standards regarding course content. They will provide students with feedback on their coursework and examinations and to be available to students through regularly scheduled office hours in a designated location. The Visiting Lecturer will have students evaluate their course using the standard University evaluation forms and to make those evaluations available to the East Asian Studies Program Director.



Required Qualifications
  • All-but-Dissertation (ABD by the time of hire) or academic equivalent in any discipline, with a teaching focus on the study of Mongolia
  • Demonstrated experience teaching at the college or university level
  • Demonstrated ability and commitment to cultivating learning environments that are equitable and inclusive of students with a range of social identities and backgrounds


Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. or equivalent in any academic discipline, with an active teaching and research focus on the study of Mongolia
  • Experience living in Mongolia
  • Fluency in Mongolian
  • Experience with the effective use of teaching methods that promote active, participatory learning

Salary



This is a part-time position (0.45 FTE) for one academic quarter. Total compensation for the 5-credit course is up to $15,000 (depending upon academic qualifications and years of teaching experience in a college or university setting), plus up to a $2,500 travel allowance.
