Planned Parenthood Western Pennsylvania (PPWP) is the local affiliate of the country's leading sexual and reproductive health care advocate and provider. PPWP operates five health centers located in Allegheny, Westmoreland, and Cambria Counties and provides education and advocacy services throughout western Pennsylvania.
Provides reproductive and sexual health services to patients across the gender spectrums including physical exams, medical story taking and patient-centered counseling. Works in cooperation with the Health Center Manager to ensure health center operations meet agency standards. This position is in the Pittsburgh clinic.
ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS
EssentialFunctionsStatement(s)
- Provides medical services, contraceptive, reproductive and sexual health services, according to the standards and guidelines of Planned Parenthood Federation of America and the protocols of Planned Parenthood of Western Pennsylvania.
- Works with Laboratory Director to ensure that all test methodologies are appropriate, and that the center(s) is providing patient results. Verification procedures for each test are adequate to determine performance characteristics, including precision and accuracy (as appropriate).
- Designates the performance of quality control procedures.
- Ensures materials used in the laboratory are correctly labeled with the substance and date and are stored and used according to the manufacturers' directions.
- Coordinates and oversees the training of testing personnel.
- Reviews and evaluates the clinical lab performance of all lab staff annually as a part of their annual review.
- Interprets laboratory tests and orders additional diagnostic tests when indicated for sexual health conditions. Makes appropriate referrals for clinical findings that require additional care.
- Understands and participates in centralized administrative work, such as medical abortion follow up, laboratory results review and follow up, patient phone calls and Pills by Mail.
- Consults with the Medical Director for abnormal findings or conditions that are outside scope of the PPWP Medical Standards and Guidelines.
- Prescribes medications including all FDA approved birth control methods, and schedule III medications with a DEA license for the care of transgender and gender expansive patients, according to PPFA guidelines/protocols and collaborative agreement with the state.
- Serve as a professional role model, preceptor and mentor to other clinicians as applicable.
- Assists with training and performance assessments for healthcare assistants at assigned health center locations as needed.
- Initiates or assists in the delivery of emergency care in accordance with established procedures.
- Complies with all CLIA and OSHA regulations.
- Oversees and confirms staff proficiency with laboratory testing and maintenance.
- Demonstrates proficiency in performing moderate complexity lab testing, such as wet mount microscopy, as indicated.
- Rotates health centers at assigned locations as needed.
- Attends professional meetings and educational seminars.
- Participates in PPWP's Risk and Quality Management program.
- Knowledge of and participation in the PPWP Child Abuse Reporting Policy, including submitting mandated child abuse reports to children.
- Participates in and is accountable for all research-related duties as delegated.
- Proficiency with accurate electronic health record documentation per PPWP policy and procedures
- Proficiency with Google Office suite, including word processing and email communication.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
SKILLS&ABILITIES
Education/Licenses:
· Currently licensed in the state of Pennsylvania as a certified registered nurse practitioner, certified nurse midwife.
- Must have prescriptive authority with current licensure.
- Must have or be eligible for DEA license.
- Must have a current Pennsylvania Driver's license and transportation to travel to PPWP health centers.
Skills:
· Ability to communicate in a cooperative manner with clients, health center staff and supervisors in order to accomplish common goals.
- Ability to use patient centered communication to develop rapport with patients and provide equitable and judgement free care.
- Ability to comfortably discuss sexuality, contraception, sexually transmitted diseases, and pregnancy options.
- High personal standard of excellence and professional conduct.
- Ability to work quickly and skillfully to maintain patient flow and meet productivity standards to support revenue cycle goals.

- PPFA standards and protocols and OSHA regulations.

- Ability to independently use IT platforms and equipment to provide telemedicine.
- Ability to communicate examination results, diagnosis, and treatment to patients.
- Willingness to provide care to diverse populations including patients with Limited English Proficiency, E, LGBTQIA+, patients of all genders, and patients receiving abortion services.
- Punctual and regular attendance is an essential responsibility of each employee. Employees are expected to report to work as scheduled, on time and prepared to start working. Employees also are expected to remain at work for their entire work schedule
