Job Description: Dispensing Technician– Long-Term Care Pharmacy

Position Overview

A Dispensing Technician plays a pivotal role in the efficient operation of our Long-Term Care Pharmacy. This position is responsible for the dispensing of medications and medication ordering processes to ensure compliance with all regulatory standards while maintaining the highest level of accuracy and patient safety. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in pharmacy operations, excellent organizational skills, and a commitment to delivering outstanding service to long-term care facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately prepare, label, and dispense medications in accordance with prescriptions and regulatory standards.
  • Ensure that all medication labeling, packaging, and documentation meet required guidelines.
  • Operate and maintain pharmacy equipment, including automated dispensing machines, to accurately package medications according to facility specifications.

Medication Ordering and Inventory Management:

  • Monitor inventory levels to ensure availability of medications, minimizing waste or shortages.
  • Coordinate with suppliers to manage and track medication orders, ensuring timely and efficient restocking.

Regulatory Compliance and Quality Assurance:

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of state and federal pharmacy regulations, ensuring full compliance.
  • Conduct regular audits to verify adherence to quality and compliance standards

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in medication handling.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for team coordination and client interactions.
  • Proficiency with pharmacy management software and inventory systems.
  • Active Pharmacy Technician License with the State of Michigan.

Work Environment

This position is primarily based in the pharmacy and requires occasional interaction with healthcare facility staff. It involves prolonged periods of standing and working with medications in a fast-paced environment.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
