Job Summary:

The Director of Nursing (DON) in Assisted Living is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all aspects of resident care and wellness within the community. This leadership role ensures that residents receive the highest quality of care in accordance with state regulations and company standards, while fostering a supportive and compassionate environment for both residents and staff. The Director of Nursing reports directly to the Executive Director/Administrator.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the overall nursing and care operations within the Assisted Living community.
  • Develop, implement, and update clinical policies, procedures, and best practices to promote quality care and resident satisfaction.
  • Recruit, train, mentor, and evaluate Care Aides and Med Techs to ensure high standards of resident care and team performance.
  • Oversee medication management, including medication administration and documentation, in compliance with regulations and company policy.
  • Conduct regular community rounds to monitor resident well-being, assess care delivery, and provide hands-on clinical support as needed.
  • Collaborate with residents, families, and physicians to address care needs, concerns, and changes in condition.
  • Participate in resident assessments and the creation of individualized service plans, ensuring they are implemented and updated as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical records, reports, and communication logs.
  • Investigate and document all incidents, concerns, and potential regulatory issues, reporting findings to the Administrator as required.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations, as well as internal company policies.
  • Partner with leadership to manage departmental budgets, staffing, and resource allocation.
  • Participate in quality assurance programs and actively contribute to maintaining a safe and caring environment for residents and staff.

Qualifications:

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Michigan.
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in a leadership or supervisory role within Assisted Living, Memory Care, or a similar senior living setting.
  • Strong knowledge of state regulations governing Assisted Living and medication administration.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to fostering a person-centered, team-oriented care environment.
