Position Summary
This role plays a critical role in advancing People's Credit Union's purpose and core values, which are the foundation that allows us to serve members, invest in employees, and support our communities. As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Head of Finance & Risk provides strategic and operational leadership for the Credit Union's financial performance, balance sheet management, and enterprise risk oversight.
Major Duties and ResponsibilitiesStrategic & Financial Leadership- Partner with the Head of People's CU and Senior Team to shape and execute strategies that balance growth, purpose, and financial sustainability.
- Lead the budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes to ensure alignment with strategic goals and member value creation.
- Provide transparent, data-informed financial insights that drive decision-making and operational excellence across the organization.
- Steward capital, liquidity, and earnings in a manner that supports growth, innovation, and resilience.
- Evaluate financial implications of new initiatives, partnerships, and product offerings through a purpose-driven lens.
- Voting member of Retirement Plans Investment Committee, Risk Committee, and Credit Committee.
- Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of all financial reporting, including month-end close, quarterly call reports, and annual audits.
- Regularly present budget-to-actual results to the Board and Credit Union Leadership, explaining key variances, their root causes, and the continuing implications for financial performance and strategic goals.
- Oversee financial controls, accounting policies, and systems that protect the Credit Union's assets and reputation.
- Maintain compliance with GAAP, NCUA, and all applicable state and federal regulations.
- Drive process improvements and automation initiatives to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and member impact.
- As Chair of the Asset Liability Committee (ALCO), lead balance sheet, liquidity, and capital strategies that position the Credit Union for sustainable growth and resiliency.
- Partner closely with the CEO, Board of Directors, and Senior Team to align financial stewardship with long-term strategic priorities and community impact.
- Oversee asset-liability modeling, scenario analysis, and investment portfolio management to optimize balance sheet performance.
- Translate complex ALM results into clear, actionable strategies for the Board and Leadership team.
- Monitor macroeconomic trends and competitive market conditions to inform proactive financial strategies.
- Uphold compliance with ALCO and liquidity policies, ensuring prudent risk management consistent with PCU'S values and purpose.
- Provide executive oversight of the Risk and Financial Recovery functions to ensure sound portfolio quality, collections effectiveness, and regulatory compliance.
- Serve as liaison to the Supervisory Committee, managing the administration of the internal and compliance audit function.
- Ensure the Credit Union maintains a comprehensive and cost-effective corporate insurance program that aligns with enterprise risk management objectives and provides adequate protection for members, employees, and assets.
- Integrate enterprise risk awareness into all aspects of financial management and decision-making.
- Balance risk mitigation with innovation to support responsible growth and member impact.
- Model People's Credit Union's values and purpose in all interactions, decisions, and leadership practices.
- Continuously develop expertise and leverage industry trends to strengthen performance and align with the Credit Union's strategic direction.
- Build and mentor high-performing teams across Finance, Risk, and Financial Recovery, fostering a culture of trust, collaboration, and accountability.
- Champion financial literacy and transparency internally, helping all employees understand how their work contributes to PCU's success.
- Serve as a visible leader and ambassador of PCU's mission in the community and the credit union movement.
- Communicate organizational updates and initiatives to staff in a timely and effective manner.

Knowledge and Skills- A bachelor's degree in finance or accounting
- A minimum of 10 years progressive financial management experience
- Knowledge of financial activities, policies, procedures and systems as would normally be obtained by ten years progressive financial management experience
- General knowledge of activities associated with collections

- Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion.
- Must be able to operate routine office equipment including telephone, copier, facsimile, and calculator.
- Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day.
- Must be able to work additional hours whenever required or requested by management.
- Must be capable of travel by automobile (as driver and passenger), commercial airlines, rental vehicles and public transportation and be able to lodge in public facilities.
- Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.
Working Conditions:
- Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with minimal noise.
- Must be able to prioritize work, maintain engagement and productivity in a remote work environment.
