Position Summary
The ARC Program Coordinator reports to the project director of Access Retention and Community (ARC) housed in the College of Ethnic Studies. The ARC Program Coordinator will be working on Access Retention and Community (ARC) and will serve as a part of a cohesive, collegial team that is dedicated towards transfer student enrollment, retention and graduation in the College of Ethnic Studies. Under the direct supervision of the Director and in close collaboration with the Co-PI creates, implements culturally responsive student services and programming aimed at improving student engagement, retention, and graduation. In addition, the ARC Program Coordinator manages the AANAPISI grant.
Position Information
Student programming
- Develop a tailored community-building and career readiness student programming and curriculum with Ethnic Studies lens
- Work with ARC faculty and ARC peer mentors to conduct career readiness student programming such as resume building, cover letters, work opportunities in ARC Student Learning Communities
- Design and develop and conduct ARC faculty learning communities focused on increasing faculty capacity to incorporate community-building and career readiness student programming
- Works with campus partners including SF State transfer support coordinator, and SMCCCD community colleges. ARC program coordinators to program transfer ready campus visits at SF State
- Regularly meets with transfer students enrolled in ARC Student Learning Communities
- Stays updated with best practices for transfer ready, career readiness and community building programming in higher education and make recommendations.
- Refers transfer students to various campus resources
- Reviews student data, assessments and input; identifies needs; makes recommendations and creates student programming that addresses those needs.
Program Coordination of AANAPISI ARC grants
- Handle the logistics for AANAPISI events including event planning and the handling of honorariums and hospitality
- Regularly update the AANAPISI program website, help create marketing strategies and materials for AAPI student programming, and prepare periodic newsletters or brochures as needed
- Ensure that assessments of all events and activities are conducted with ARC programs for formative and summative evaluations. Assist the Project Director in coordinating with the Office of Institutional Research to identify data for formative and summative evaluations
- Assist the Project Director and Co-Director in the preparation of evaluation and fiscal reports
- Assist the Project Director with program and budget management
- Identify through the data and assessment needs facing the AANAPISI initiatives and develop and recommend courses of action, and implement proposed solutions.

Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge and Abilities: The following knowledge and abilities, as well as, those listed at lower level in the Student Services Professional series are required for appointment to this classification. Thorough knowledge of the policies, procedures and practices of the program area to which assigned and the ability to quickly acquire such knowledge. General knowledge of the policies, practices and activities of Student Services programs outside the program to which immediately assigned; general knowledge of the principles, problems and methods of public administration, including organizational, personnel and fiscal management; general knowledge of advanced statistical and research methods.
Ability to carry out very complex assignments without detailed instructions; advise students individually or in groups on varied and complex matters; determine the appropriate course of action and proper techniques to utilize while engaged with individuals and groups in personal interactions of a sensitive nature; reason logically and analyze and solve organizational and operating problems alone on several program areas; plan, coordinate and initiate actions necessary to implement administrative or group decisions or recommendations; analyze and define complex organizational, policy or procedural problems, collect and evaluate data, draw valid conclusions and project consequences of various alternative courses of action; understand the roles and responsibilities of others and to gauge relationships accordingly by taking into account the variety of the interrelationships, motivations and goals of the members of the organization served; and establish and maintain effective, cooperative and harmonious working relationships in circumstances which involve the denial of requests or the necessity to persuade others to accept a different point of view.
Experience: Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent to four years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience which includes experience in advising students individually and in groups, and in analysis and resolution of complex student services problems.
A master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work or a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling, guidance or a job-related field may be substituted for two years of the required professional experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional, personal or career counseling.
Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field plus upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing and conflict resolution where such are job related.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree and/or Ph.D/Ed.D in education, student development, ethnic studies, or other academic field related to the primary duties of the position;
- Demonstrated experience working effectively to support the academic success and social integration of Asian American and Pacific Islander students in a higher education setting; and
- Proven understanding of and ability to appropriately apply student development theories as they relate to students of color and other historically marginalized student populations as well as social justice models of organizational change.
Environmental/Physical/Special
Must be able to competently interact with a culturally and ethnically diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.
